Founders Day Service
Sunday, April 30, 4:00 pm

This service celebrates the 157th anniversary of the Augustana Lutheran Church in America and the 167th anniversary of the Andover Lutheran congregation. The speaker will be Jason Mahn, Associate Professor of Religion, Augustana College. He is the Chair of the Religion Department and Director of the Pre-Seminary Program. His focus will be on the Reformation.


Pastor Dan Witkowski from First Lutheran Church in Moline will lead the service. Music will be provided by Pastor Cliff Schmidt, soloist, and Deanna Swanson, organist, both from Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover. Following the service, light refreshments will be provided by Swedona Lutheran Church.

Birdies for Charity

The Jenny Lind Chapel is participating in the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament Birdies for Charity pledge program. This is a great way to provide funds for the Chapel ministry.

The official pledge card is available at the Chapel. In filling out the card, the charity name is "Jenny Lind Chapel" and the Bird Number is 1955. The address for sending in your pledge card is Birdies for Charity, 15623 Coaltown Rd, East Moline, IL 61244. All pledge cards must be received by July 14, 2017.

Reformation Anniversary Service
Sunday, September 24, 4:00 pm
An ecumenical service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. It will include portions of the Common Prayer Service compiled by the Liturgical Task Force of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity. The ecumenical commemoration of the 500 years of Reformation reflects in its basic liturgical structure this theme of thanksgiving, repentance and common witness and communion.

The message will be given by Sister Sandra Brunenn OSB, who is the Prioress of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Rock Island. The presiders will be Pastor Michel Clark from Knoxville, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Father James P. DeBisschop who serves St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Coal Valley and Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Orion. The offering will go to Hurricane Harvey Relief.

An ecumenical choir will be led by Ben Holmes who is the director of choirs at Moline's Wilson Middle School, director of the Ascension Ringers bell choir at Augustana College, and Ascension Chapel accompanist at Augustana College. The organist will be Chris Nelson, organist and director of music at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

47th Annual Joy of Christmas with Augustana College
Wednesday, December 6, 7:30 pm
Students and faculty from Augustana College join the community for this beautiful service of worship and music that starts at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover. The Christmas story will be read in several different languages. The message will be given by Dr. Christopher Whitt, Professor of Political Science at Augustana College.

The service concludes with a procession to the Jenny Lind Chapel, which is illuminated by 100 candles, and where Holy Communion will be celebrated to the strains of familiar Christmas carols. Refreshments will be served in Luther Hall immediately after the service.
