In your third geography topic, you will be exploring the exciting world of tectonic hazards. You will learn:
How the earth is structured
Why volcanoes and earthquakes occur where they do
How earthquakes are measured
How LICs and HICs prepare and respond to earthquakes

This task is aimed at developing your teamwork and collaboration skills so you MUST find a partner to work with on this!
Make sure both of you have completed task 1 and 2 beforehand, otherwise you won’t be able to get the Golden Ticket.
The project – in pairs you must choose an example of a devastating earthquake, one that we haven’t looked at in class, and create an informative video about it. The video must include the following:
Key facts: where, when, why, how?
Effects: short-term and long-term effects
Responses: immediate and long-term responses.

For your fourth unit in Year 8 Geography you will be looking at Changing Cities. You will discover:
How urban areas have changed over time
How cities grow
What problems cities face
The urban heat island
Smart cities of the future

This task is aimed at developing your teamwork and collaboration skills so you MUST find a partner to work with on this!
Make sure both of you have completed task 1 and 2 beforehand, otherwise you won’t be able to get the Golden Ticket.
The project – in pairs you must choose an example of a rapidly changing city, one that we haven’t looked at in class, and create an informative video about it. The video must include the following:
Location: continent, country, compass directions, surrounding countries, hemisphere etc.
Statistics: size by area and population, population density and other key facts.
Changes: how has it changed overtime? E.g., population change, urban sprawl etc.
Effects: Positive and negative effects of the changes.
