I Navigli ieri e oggi

I Navigli, sono un lungo e navigabile sistema di canali.
Tra i Navigli milanesi i più conosciuti sono: il Naviglio Grande e il Pavese, ma ne fanno parte anche il Naviglio Paderno, la Martesana e il Bereguardo.
Essi vennero utilizzati già in epoca romana a partire dal II secolo, fungendo da centro di scambio dei prodotti.
Il primo canale artificiale costruito dai romani per soddisfare la necessità di acqua della città di Milano fu il Vettabbia. Purtroppo verso il VII secolo dopo le invasioni barbariche molti canali caddero in disuso e un’ampia area si ricoprì di acque stagnanti e vegetazione incolta; in questo stesso periodo, però, cominciò la rigorosa opera di bonifica del territorio da parte dei monaci cistercensi.

Sulle rive del Naviglio Grande e di quello Pavese, ogni sera, si accende la movida milanese: ristoranti, bar, pub, osterie e locali notturni di classe che attirano migliaia di persone. Il quartiere è ancora ricco di botteghe artigianali, di angoli pittoreschi e di cappellette illuminate sulle cantonate. Ogni estate inoltre vi è l’occasione di partecipare a mostre e feste popolari dedicate a tutte le famiglie ed ogni ultima domenica del mese, inoltre, si snoda lungo il Naviglio Grande il Mercatone dell’Antiquariato.
Tra le manifestazioni culturali più importanti di Milano non si può però non citare la Festa dei Navigli. Essa si tiene annualmente il 2 di giugno e coinvolge ogni anno moltissime persone. La festa ha luogo sui Navigli e l’intera zona viene appositamente illuminata per l’occasione. Durante l’evento si tengono, inoltre, conferenze e dibattiti sulla storia dei Navigli e si può assistere a meravigliosi spettacoli musicali e giochi pirotecnici.

The Navigli, are a long and navigable system of channels.
Among the Milanese channels, the most known are: Naviglio Grande, and Naviglio Pavese, but also Naviglio Paderno, Martesana and Bereguardo.
They were already used in Roman times beginning in the II century, acting as a center for the exchange of products.
The first artificial channel built by the Romans for the need of water in the city of Milan was the Vettabbia.
Unfortunately, towards the 7th century, after the barbarian invasions, a few channels fell into disuse and a large area was covered by stagnant water and uncultivated vegetation; in the same period the rigorous work of remediation of the land by the Cistercian monks began.

On the banks of the Naviglio Grande and Pavese, every evening, the Milan nightlife lights up: restaurants, bars, pubs, taverns and nightclubs of class attract thousands of people. The neighborhood is still full of artisan shops, picturesque corners and illuminated small chapels on the street. Every summer there is also the opportunity to participate in exhibitions and popular festivals dedicated to all families and every last Sunday of the month, you have the opportunity to visit the Mercatone dell'Antiquariato on the Naviglio Grande, Ripa Ticinese and Alzaie.
Among the most important cultural events in Milan, we have to mention the Festa dei Navigli. It is held annually on June 2 and involves many people every year. During the event there are also conferences and debates on the history of the canals and you can attend wonderful musical shows and pyrotechnic games.
