How to Register on Livingston Research (Step-by-Step Guide)
Are you looking to earn money online using your academic skills? Livingston Research might be the right platform for you. In this article, I’ll walk you through the complete registration process on Livingston Research, based on my own experience as a former freelancer on the platform.
Whether you’re new to freelance academic writing or exploring new platforms, this detailed guide covers everything — from filling out your personal information to completing the entrance tests and maximizing your chances of being accepted.
Livingston Research is a freelance platform that connects academic experts with clients (mostly students) looking for help with assignments, tutoring, case studies, essays, and research papers. The platform offers a wide range of subjects including business, economics, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and more.
In my previous video, I shared my experience working for Livingston Research — the projects I worked on, how much I earned, and why I eventually stopped. That video generated a lot of questions, especially around how to register on the platform.
Since many people were confused about the registration process, this article (and video) will help clarify it for you step-by-step.
Go to Livingston Research’s application page and click “Apply.”
You'll be welcomed with a message encouraging you to fill out a short application form that includes your:
Full name
Country of residence
Degree or academic background
Major subject area
Two additional subjects you are comfortable with
⚠️ Important: Do NOT use a VPN during the registration process. Livingston Research clearly prohibits VPN usage during application and probation stages. Doing so may disqualify your account automatically.
You will be asked to choose:
One primary subject (e.g., Business Studies, Physics, English Literature)
Two secondary subjects that you’re familiar with (e.g., Humanities, Social Sciences, Environmental Science)
Choose carefully based on your academic strengths. Your future tasks will be related to these subjects.
This is the first actual test you'll take:
Duration: 15 minutes
Format: Multiple-choice questions
Purpose: To test your grammar, sentence structure, and basic English skills
💡 Tip: Use tools like Grammarly or even ChatGPT (sparingly and ethically) to check tricky grammar rules before you begin. The test is straightforward and easy for native or fluent English speakers.
If you pass the language test, you’ll move to the second stage — the Test Task. This involves writing an essay or completing a case study in your selected subject area.
Here’s how it works:
You’ll be given a list of assignments to choose from
Each assignment includes:
Instructions
An example essay
A formatting template (usually in MLA format)
Word Count: ~300 words
Deadline: 48 hours after starting, though early submission is encouraged
💡 Advice: Write a rough draft on paper first. Then use a speech-to-text tool like Dragon NaturallySpeaking to speed up your writing if typing is slow for you.
Follow this general structure:
Introduction – Briefly present the topic
Body Paragraphs – One or two strong points with explanation and citations
Conclusion – Summarize your view or solution clearly
⚠️ Avoid using AI to write your full essay. Livingston Research uses plagiarism and AI-detection tools, and submitting AI-generated content could result in immediate disqualification.
Before you hit submit:
Run your essay through Grammarly or Small SEO Tools
Check for:
Spelling errors
Grammar mistakes
Plagiarism
Readability score
You can also try tools like:
Hemingway Editor
to review and rate your draft.
Once your writing task is submitted, you’ll be prompted to verify your phone number.
After that, you’ll receive a confirmation email saying:
"Congratulations! You've completed all the probation stages. Our recruiting manager will check your test task and get back to you within 2–5 business days."
Not everyone is accepted. Livingston Research, like most serious freelance platforms, has a strict vetting process. If your test task doesn’t meet their quality standards, you might not be approved.
Additionally, if you've already worked for Livingston Research before (like I did), your application may be rejected automatically due to duplicate records.
Write your drafts manually, then type or dictate
Avoid using a VPN during the process
Format your work according to the provided template
Use Grammarly and plagiarism-checking tools
Stay within the word limit
Take both tests seriously, even if they seem easy
Livingston Research can be a solid opportunity for freelance writers and academic professionals. However, getting in isn’t guaranteed. Use this guide to improve your chances and prepare effectively.
