Derby Requirement: Weaving is an essential skill for moving around skaters on the track.
Set Up: Set out a number of widely spaced cones - five to ten feet apart.
Action:
To weave, skaters need to shift weight to edges to allow them to turn
Gently lean knees the direction you wish to turn and your feet will follow
Set Up: Set out two (or more) rows of cones - five to ten feet apart.
Action:
Split skaters into two or more teams depending on numbers
Race starts on the whistle. One skater from each team goes, weaves around the cones and skates straight back, tagging the next skater and so on.
Prerequisite: Skaters to have done weaving around cones - above.
Objective: Skaters will learn to move around other skaters on track.

Action:
Set up a single paceline with each skater a little over arms length apart
Back skater weaves between skaters
Skater calls 'inside' and 'outside
Coaching points:
Use sticky and normal skating, avoid clashing feet with other skaters
Progression:
Speed up progression through the paceline
Cut closer to the skaters in the paceline eg - wipe bum on skater when cutting in front of them
