Throughout your adventure, you will encounter various types of weapons for inflicting harm upon others or defending yourself. Below, you will find a list of all the weapon archetypes that currently exist in the system.
Anyone can pick up a weapon and use it, but true mastery is a different matter altogether. When you are proficient with a weapon, similarly to skills, you add your level to the weapon's attack rolls.
Additionally, proficiency with a weapon grants you the ability to utilize the weapon's special move that you wouldn't otherwise be able to use.
The concept of a weapon family represents the function of a weapon. Weapons within the same family share similar functionality and weapon attacks.
For example, in the Crossbow family, you would find Heavy Crossbows and Hand Crossbows, both of which have a reload mechanic.
Weapon categories are a representation of how weapons are handled, and they are divided into four categories: Colossal, Heavy, Standard, and Light.
Light weapons require one hand to use, while Colossal and Heavy weapons require 2 hands. Standard weapons can be used with 1 hand, but when doing so, you have disadvantage on attacks. Note that some weapons have special rules about handling.
For example, in the Crossbow family, you would have the Heavy Crossbow, which is slow to reload but powerful, and the Hand Crossbow, which is quick to reload but deals less damage per shot.
In some cases, weapons come with additional properties that indicate specific mechanics for the weapons:
Range x
Range indicates the optimal distance up to which the weapon can be used. Weapons can be used beyond the maximum range, but for each additional 3 meters (10 feet), the roll is made with an additional disadvantage.
Ranged weapon aslo have disadvantage when performing attacks towards creatures in melee with them.
Thrown
Weapons with the Thrown property can be used to make a ranged attack by throwing the weapon. A range is indicated for these weapons.
Ammunition
Weapons with the Ammunition property can only be used if you have the appropriate ammunition. Each time the weapon is used, one ammunition is consumed and lost.
Strength, Agility, Arcane or Versatile
This property indicates which attribute is used for the attack roll and whenever it calls for attack power or Spellpower. Versatile means you can choose between Agility or Strength, while Arcane means you can choose between Wits or Intelligence.
