The Spellquills are individuals capable of writing spell scrolls. When used, spell scrolls allow the user to cast the spell inscribed in the scroll without having to know it. The scroll is destroyed in the process.
Casting a spell from spell scrolls follows all the basic rules of spellcasting, including paying the appropriate Action and Willpower cost.
As a Spellquill, you can spend 1 hour to create a spell scroll. Crafting a spell scroll requires you to have parchment, ink, and some Arcane Quartz. Arcane Quartz can be bought in most general supplies stores. The amount of Arcane Quartz you require is based on the rank of the Spell:
Novice: 500 Coins worth of Arcane Quartz.
Apprentice: 1000 Coins worth of Arcane Quartz.
Adept: 1500 Coins worth of Arcane Quartz.
Master: 2000 Coins worth of Arcane Quartz.
At first level, you can only inscribe spells from the Novice Spell list.
You can craft 2 spell scrolls during a long rest without hindering its effects.
At the end of a long rest, you can prepare a number of Ephemeral Spell Scrolls equal to half your Intelligence + your rank in Spellquill.
Ephemeral Spell Scrolls are spell scrolls that expire at the start of your next long rest. Otherwise, they work the same way as normal Spell Scrolls, though they are easily identifiable as Ephemeral.
You can now inscribe spells from the Apprentice Spell list.
Additionally, you now know how to alter your Spell Scrolls syntax with Power Words. Whenever you create Spell Scrolls, you can choose to pay the indicated Willpower Cost to add a Power Word, altering the spell effects.
You know the following Power Words:
Willpower Points: 1
Creatures are unable to determine the source of the spell if the user succeeds in a Stealth check contest against the creatures Perception.
Willpower Points: 5
The spell scroll will cast the spell again at the end of your turn, and you can choose a new target for the second cast.
Willpower Points: 1
For spells that deal damage, you can change the damage type to one of your choice.
You learn the following Power Words:
Willpower Points: 2
If the spell has a duration, it is increased by 50% (rounded down).
Willpower Points: 2
If the spell requires an attack roll, it is made with advantage, and saving throws against it are made with disadvantage.
Willpower Points: 4
The spell costs 3 fewer Action Points to cast, to a minimum of 1.
Willpower Points: 2
If the spell requires you to roll dice to deal damage or restore health, you use the maximum value of the dice instead of rolling them.
You can now inscribe spells from the Adept Spell list. Additionally, you can now include two Power Words on one spell scroll.
You can now inscribe spells from the Master Spell list.
When casting a spell through a Spell Scroll, you can choose to ignore the Willpower point cost. You can do so for an amount of Willpower equal to your Power. After this, you need to take a long rest before you can use this feature again.
