Arcanists are individuals who have dedicated their lives to the study and practice of magic. Unlike other magical practitioners who may gain their powers through pacts or devotion, arcanists rely on their knowledge of arcane lore and scientific principles to wield magic. They spend countless hours pouring over tomes of ancient knowledge, conducting experiments, and practicing their craft to hone their skills.
Due to their extensive studies and mastery of arcane principles, the number of spells an arcanist can learn is only limited by their time and mental capacity. As they progress in their studies, arcanists can learn to cast spells that manipulate the elements, summon creatures from other planes, create illusions, and much more. Their powers are not tied to any particular deity or entity, but rather to their own skill and knowledge.
As an Arcanist, you embark on your magical journey equipped with a spellbook, a valuable tool that contains the spells you have learned.
Your power for casting Arcanist spells is determined by your Intellect plus your level.
You create a tome that you bind to your being. The Spellbook appears when you call for it, even if it was previously destroyed. When you die, the tome will appear on your body.
The Spellbook is used as a catalyst which you read from, and you must be able to speak to cast spells. You must keep at least one hand free to access it during casting.
Your spellbook can only contain a number of spells equal to your Intelligence + level. If you reach the spell limit, you can choose to replace a spell with a new one that you have transcribed.
As an Arcanist, you possess a profound understanding of magic and its intricacies. You learn to transcribe spells into your tome, enabling you to cast them. You start with four spells of your choice from any Novice spell.
To add a new spell to your spellbook, you need to find a Spell Theory tome of the spell or have another Arcanist with the spell teach you. Once you have access to the spell, you must spend the necessary time to transcribe the spell into your tome. This process can take up to 24 hours, but you can break it up into smaller chunks of 2 hours per long rest. You can only transcribe Novice spells.
Spells cost 1 less Action point to cast; however, this cannot reduce the cost of a spell to less than 1 Action point.
Additionally, you can transcribe two spells of your choice from the Novice or Apprentice spell list into your spellbook.
When gaining this rank, you choose a School of magic to become specialised in, when casting a spell from that school, you can forgo paying the Willpower point to cast it. You can do that for an amount of Willpower equal to Half your level until you take a long rest.
Additionally, you can transcribe two spells of your choice from the Novice or Apprentice spell list into your spellbook.
Your understanding of the arcane has grown to such a level that you can now grasp the inner workings of spells by merely observing them. After observing a spell being cast, you can study it in detail and gain the ability to transcribe it into your spellbook, as if you had a Spell Theory tome of the spell.
However, while transcribing a spell in this way, you must focus solely on it and cannot begin transcribing another spell until it is complete. This process takes 24 hours and can be done in 2-hour increments during long rests without disturbing it.
You can choose a new school of magic to specialize in.
Additionally, you can transcribe two spells of your choice from the Novice, Apprentice, or Adept spell list into your spellbook.
Additionally, you can transcribe two spells of your choice from the Novice, Apprentice, Adept, or Master spell list into your spellbook.
You can learn one Legendary spell of your choice.
Your expertise in magic allows you to predict the effects of a spell before it even manifests, giving you advantage on saving throws against spells, and spell attack rolls are made with disadvantage against you.
