Leisure Chats
Local Uyghurs and their ethnic Chinese friend were having an evening chat when I approached them for a photograph. They readily consented and were keen to know where I came from. They know where Malaysia is and that it is a Muslim majority country.

This teahouse was established 100 years ago. The musicians sang lively Uyghur folk songs accompanied by traditional instruments. Waiters scurried around serving tea and tempting local confectionaries. Quelle joie de vivre!

Homeward Bound
Often, a younger child would be accompanied by an older one. They told me that some of them walked over one kilometre to get home. They expressed themselves confidently in Mandarin. Among themselves, they bantered in the Uyghur language.
