During my Quarter 1 Thai Language class, we were tasked with writing an advertisement for a chosen club or subject at MUIDS. I chose my club to be the MUIDS VEX Robotics Club.
During drafting, I used my notebook to write the advertisement in English, add main points, and finalize the design (see page 2). Then, my teacher and I rewrote the advertisement in Thai and polished it using Canva. It was lastly printed and shown during the MUIDS Open House.
In retrospect, this project was enjoyable and informative. It taught me a lot about the Thai language and reading and helped me improve quite a bit. It also helped me communicate with my teacher and learn which parts of the language confuse me the most. For the ESLOs, I recognized Strategic Learners due to the learning and improving my Thai (in both writing and reading), Innovative Thinkers because of the connections of Thai and Robotics and using knowledge and help to solve errors in writing and making it cohesive, and Articulated Communicators due to the communication needed with my teacher and also show my growing comprehension in Thai.
For the End of Chapter Activity in Semester Two, we were tasked with writing a script in Thai (or translated to Thai) with the appropriate vocabulary for an advertisement about Healthy Eating & Foods. I was able to make a game as a medium for the advertisement.
In this game, there are set requisites (acquired from research by organizations like the World Health Organization) to ensure the user is eating healthy. As the user eats more, the game is more likely to freeze & end, showcasing how easy it is to be unhealthy. The video below explains the game in further depth in Thai.
The game itself was coded in Lua and used my prior knowledge of programming & game development. Therefore, in hindsight, I enjoyed this project & found it fun to code & fully realize.
There are a few ESLOs that apply to this project. Firstly, Innovative Thinkers as I connected Health, Thai, & Game Development into fully building & realizing the project. I applied all of this knowledge to build the game & solve obstacles like making the game mechanics realistic. Secondly, Articulated Communicators as I communicated through the game & video, showing my understanding of Healthy Eating & Thai vocabulary. Last but not least, Altruistic Global Citizen by understanding different perspectives & being responsible & informing the community about healthy eating.
