The video below shows my painting interpretations of my poem "Diverse Assumptions." Then, afterward, an interview with a peer regarding the perception and expression of the painting.
The painting itself is based on a split-complementary color palette of Red, Yellow-Green, and Green-Blue. I made the background transition from red-orange to dark, dark red. It is showing the "corruption" and problems in my life; the roots and foundations of my "turf." The greens are supposed to reflect growth, trying, and such. They represent leaves and grass in contrast to the red. There were also some amounts of white and black, showing the "innocent" and "holy" parts as sprinkled white particles and such, and black corruption and problems coming from inside of them, slowly devouring them.
The painting, personally, could have been improved. I forgot to sketch it with a pencil and make a detailed plan and analysis, so it became a bit of a mess and not too pretty. To fix this, I believe I could have planned ahead of time, and asked some questions with peers on how they thought it could work. But, thankfully, there weren't any problems or such.
This assignment really helped me learn about colors, how to paint, and how to use the colors to my advantage. It also helped me utilize the descriptive and expressive language of color to communicate the poem I created, Diverse Assumptions (check the English page)
The following artwork and video show images of my artwork for the first Art project in Grade 10, to show our memories and ourselves in the past, present, and future. The past is an artwork showcase, the present is a collage of three images, and the future combines both.
The project itself was very enlightening, and I learned more detail on topics such as conceptual and observational art, value, tints/tones, highlights, and drawing styles / framing. I also learned more about my drawing style and what I'm good at or need work on. It also shows me, my ideology, and thinking. I think that I could have added more to the critique video and made it look more creative and attractive.
The video below is a critique and explainer video on this project.
Legend - Critique & Explainer Video
For our first project in Art 10, we were tasked to use our knowledge of observational drawing, conceptual drawing, values, tints/tones, textures, color, and vocabulary to create a past, present, and future art piece. My collection is primarily about myself and my idea(s) and goal(s).
This is supposed to show my past self, around the age of 10, in 2017. This is when I had the idea of a future vehicle company with my best friend, Andres, named Legend. This shows that day, both physically, and conceptually (what my mind was like, the fun, the rigor, the seriousness, and determination for this project). The tints, tone, and value add dynamic to the artwork and differentiates the important pieces.
The artwork has three main parts: the computer, the schematic, and the background. The computer shows that we continued the idea throughout time zones, long distances, and years. It also shows how much we researched, and how we looked back then. The schematic is designed based on our first idea(s) and all the notes, conception, and such. There is also crumpled paper to show this wasn't the first of the first, it took trial and error. Last but not least, the background is mostly tinted and black, to show we cared and were so determined on this, we literally stayed at Andres' house for days at a time, and did it anywhere, anytime.
For our third piece of the art project, we created a collage to represent our future. I added my 3 present images, and some conceptual art to show my idea of a futuristic future. This is supposed to be what I picture in a century, the year 2173.
As you can see, I drew the art in an L-Shaped art style, with the most important on the top and left sides. The top-right corner is a futuristic "transforming" building I imagine, to show my ideas and how I think we can advance and revolutionize humanity and ourselves. The bottom-left corner shows another new schematic for a pick-up truck and a figure (presumably me) with a "holographic" watch. This watch shows the time, memories, music player, a video conference, my certificate of graduation, and the location and time (Legend Vehicles HQ, March 17th, 2173). I think of the future often, and this shows how my mind wanders into the future, what I want to do, and what I believe in and want to achieve. This is my dream.
Above is the #Identity Assignment, in which we were tasked to create a statement and enact it in 5 photos. We picked one of the three statements of our past, present, and future selves. I chose the present statement, which was that I am a futurist and visionary, meaning I like to ponder on the future and the advancement of humanity and technology.
The 5 images show a commonplace habit I have, which is to sketch and research technology and/or cars, and act out, think of how it would work; the vision of it. This specifically shows my research into gesture control and a Heads-Up Display (HUD), and how they could be implemented together and work.
For this assignment, it was very fun and exciting to draft, plan, sketch, and ultimately executive. I learned how to draft and prepare for scenes and work in all classes. It could have been a bit improved by adding more detail, and writing a more concrete and detailed statement.
