For our Quarter 1 Summative in the elective "Introduction to Psychology," we were tasked to use what we learned in Quarter 1 about Developmental Psychology, Theories, Attachment and Parenting Styles, Psychological Issues, and the physical, cognitive, and social problems that result, and case studies, to create an A3-size poster of a case study with the subject's background, problems, improvements, theories associated with the study, interesting findings, and what can be learned from the study. It was to be due in two weeks. Using our knowledge, we chose the case study of Isabelle. It was one of the harder case studies due to the lack of information and known facts.
After choosing the case study, my group consisting of Prim, Jenna, and myself, started a Google Document (see below) and researched Isabelle for any background and findings. My job was to prioritize the research, add them to the documents, and also find relevant theories and improvements, and explain all of this. In short, I would be the main researcher and fact-checker, allowing the others in my group to do the drawing and poster.
After two to three work days, I started to plan a draft of the poster and helped with suggesting the layout and name. I thought it would be fitting to present a poster similar to a detective's dossier (folder). Therefore, we came up with the title "The Dossier of Isabelle" and the main layout which consisted of the background at the top with a drawing of what we believe Isabelle might have looked like and some facts below that about her (name, age, mental Age, and location). We then laid out the main topics of the problems, improvements, theories, findings, and learnings. Hence we then started to summarize our findings into bullet-points and make everything more concise and readable, presenting the main and most important facts.
Lastly, after a couple of days, we started adding color and permanent ink, as well as drawings, finalizing our poster. (See Rough and Final Drafts of Poster Below)
Reflection: After our teacher looked at and graded our work, we got a 46/50 or 92% (A-). This was primarily due to the layout of the poster and some grammatical or design errors in the poster. It wasn't major, but it offered insight into how we could do it better if we were to do it again. We should make it more readable and adjust the layout to fit the important parts up top and more noticeable than before. But I liked this project overall, it was similar to a detective book or scientific journal coming to life and researching all of that. Some ESLOs that the project connected to were: (1) Strategic Learners as we learned a challenging topic of the case study and Isabelle and recall significant topics, knowledge, and theories; (2) Innovative Thinkers as we created a unique yet mostly functioning layout with a creative design and connecting a couple of different pieces of information and knowledge from the collective group; (3) Articulated Communicators due to being in a group, we had to communicate about our work and progress, help each other, and show understanding of vocabulary and the subject and topic(s); and (4) Leaders of the Future due to being an active participator and group member, and being an example to help one another grow.
