The Riders - Y

Kenny Young:  Local junior who was on the scene at The Shay for several seasons in the late 70s and early 80s.  Got a brief chance in the team in 1982 - riding alongside Carter at Sheffield as the Dukes looked to fill the gap caused by Janke's injury - and scored 2 fortuitous points when Carter had mechanical problems. His other outing came in the final match of the season at Ipswich.  Young moved on from Halifax after 1982, having several outings for Long Eaton, but failed to hold down a team place and left the sport in 1987.

Dave Younghusband:  One of the legends of Halifax Speedway, Younghusband joined the Dukes first side in 1965 as part of the Middlesbrough team who transferred to The Shay.  Quickly formed a powerful heat-leader trio with Boocock and Boothroyd, and this proved to be the catalyst for the double-winning success of 1966.  A fast starter, Younghusband held the Halifax track record several times during a stellar 8 year Dukes career.  He broke his leg in a crash at Poole in June 1972, and that proved to be the end of his Halifax outings.  Missed the entire 1973 season, before attempting a comeback with Cradley at the start of 1974 - but quit for good after only a handful of meetings.  Subsequently spent several seasons as team manager of the all-conquering Newcastle Diamonds National League sides of the late 70s and early 80s.  Qualified for two British Finals, in 1968 and 1971.
