The Dukes final league fixture of the season saw them narrowly defeat Coventry and secure overall 4th place in the final league table. Eric Boocock once again led the way, but had no answer to brother Nigel, who recovered from a first race engine failure to record five further wins. Eric and Gavros took advantage of the first race misfortune, and the 5-1 proved to be the difference in the end in a close match. The final 2 races were thrillers, with Boocock and Kentwell combining to edge Halifax into the lead, and then Younghusband and Jay ensuring the points in the decider.
The Dukes closed out the 1960s with a comfortable challenge match victory over local rivals Sheffield. Ironically, Eric Boocock recorded his lowest score of the entire season, running a last in heat 1 after sliding off, and then breaking the tapes in his next outing. Fortunately, the rest of the Dukes had enough in hand to see off the Tigers, who were heavily dependent on Airey, Larsson and Haley. It was a good end to the season, with plenty of questions to answer regarding the potential rider line-up as the 1970s approached.
