Heat by Heat Results - March 1983

How this happened is still anyone's guess, but Halifax opened their 1983 season with an away win - having not won away from the Shay since 1981. And it was achieved at title favourites Coventry, and with Craig Pendlebury not yet arrived back in the UK. The victory was in no small part assisted by engine failures galore for the hosts, and the Dukes took full advantage. Doug Wyer was the star of the show, collecting 3 wins, whilst Dixon, Finch, Baker and Famari all showed promise, only guest Mark Courtney failing to make an impression. Carter collected his only win of the night in the final heat to clinch the win.

The Dukes opened their home campaign with a comfortable, if unspectacular, win over Sheffield. Carter was denied a maximum when he seized his engine whilst leading heat 12, a sign of the early season he was to have. Halifax were solid throughout, only new signing Glen Parrott being out of his depth. Both Finch and Baker won 2 races each, and Dixon scored a good 6 points before a final race crash when he clipped Phil White's rear wheel. Dave Morton, as ever, gave a good account of himself for the Tigers, but the result was never in much doubt. John Davis guested for the injured Shawn Moran for the Tigers but failed to make an impression.
