Heat by Heat Results - March 1982

The 1982 Halifax Dukes kicked off their season on a cold, damp night, with a trip to Coventry in the League Cup. The 16 heat format of the previous season had been ditched in favour of the normal 13 heats. A top-heavy Dukes side fell to a 10 point defeat, although the score probably flattered the Bees. Halifax, led by Louis and Carter kept the Bees in their sights, and a last heat engine failure for Carter and tapes exclusion for Wyer made the Bees victory more comfortable than it was. Had Cartwright not had an off-night, and the 3 Aussies been more on the pace, a shock away win could have been on the cards.

The Dukes opened their home season at The Shay with an absolute thumping of Sheffield, as the home side topped the 50 point mark. Carter lead from the front, scoring a faultless 12 point maximum, whilst Louis was only beaten by the impressive Shawn Moran, who carried the Tigers almost single-handedly. Moran and reserve Fiora took their only heat win in heat 8, but otherwise it was Halifax all the way. Baker, Janke and Cartwright all put their performance of the previous week out of their minds, whilst Wyer looked good for the second meeting. Only Ashton looked a little off the pace.
