The Riders - T

Robert Tate: Local junior Tate got his chance in 1982 when injuries forced the Dukes to use all their resources.  He took part in 10 matches for the Dukes - but scored only 3 points, his best appearance coming in the home defeat by Swindon, where, covering for the injured Ashton, he scored 2 points from 5 starts.

John Titman:  Another in the line of Australians to try their luck at Halifax, 21-year old Titman joined the Dukes at the start of the 1972 season.  Averaged 4 points over the season, and was retained for 1973, when he progressed rapidly.  Won 2 rounds of the Northern Riders championship, and was selected to represent his country in the world pairs semi-final.  Was temporarily appointed Dukes skipper following Boocock's injury in August, and was unlucky to miss out on the chance to represent Halifax in the end of season BLRC, the re-staging of the event following a postponement coming after he had returned home for the winter.  Had increased his average to almost 7 points by the end of the season, but did not return to Halifax or the UK for 1974.  Subsequently returned in 1975, spending 10 seasons in the UK with Exeter, Leicester, Hackney and Wimbledon.  Was Australian Champion in 1977 and made two World Final appearances in 1978 and 1979.

Dave Trownson:  Manchester-born Trownson had a successful National League career, notably with Berwick and Edinburgh during the 70s and 80s, often doubling up for Wolverhampton in the top flight.  The Dukes signed him as number 8 in the 1981 season as their injuries mounted, and he rode in 12 matches for Halifax, failing to score in only 1 match, a heavy defeat at Cradley Heath.  A near 5 point average led to talks of signing permanently for 1982, but Trownson opted to stay in the National League.  Ended up doubling up with Reading and Wolves again over the next few seasons. He moved on from Edinburgh after the 1987 season, briefly joining Exeter, but retired part way through 1988 after a handful of meetings.
