The final action of the season at the Shay saw honours even in the £100 Challenge with the Aces. The Dukes were indebted to guest Ole Olsen who won his final 2 outings, but holding a 4 point lead, Halifax were pegged back when Boocock and Jay were relegated to the minor places in heat 12. Olsen defeated Mauger in the decider to seal the draw. The Aces were impacted by a controversial exclusion for Mauger in heat 5, and an engine failure for Pusey in heat 11.
Halifax finished their 1972 league campaign with an underwhelming performance from an under-strength side, to suffer their heaviest defeat of the season at Hyde Road. With no guest available, and Mackay engaged with Workington, the Dukes included second-halfers Alan Davison and Dave Kitchen, but neither made an impression, as Boocock was the only Duke to beat a home rider all night. The defeat left Halifax a lowly 12th in the league table, a massive 35 points behind champions Belle Vue, and only 10 points above bottom-placed Newport.
Eric Boocock represented Halifax in the season-ending BLRC at Belle Vue the following weekend (21/10/72) and finished a disappointing 14th place on only 3 points, in a meeting won by Ole Olsen, from Martin Ashby and Ronnie Moore.
