An Active Prayer Life is What ‘Waters’ All Ministerial Efforts
Dear Friends in Christ,
I pray this edition of our Global Newsletter finds you well. I am glad to share with you a message at the intersection of prayer and fruitfulness in ministry. As a ministry dedicated to inspiring, promoting, and fostering the spiritual well-being of families, we understand the power of prayer in almost every effort we do.
From the earliest days of the founding of the Family Rosary Crusade that grew into Holy Cross Family Ministries, Venerable Patrick Peyton showed us all that no ministry can thrive and be fruitful without an intentional commitment to an active prayer life. With no prayer at its heart, ministries become mere social work enterprises. It is a commitment to an internal organization culture that centers prayer that a ministry evolves from being a mere social work enterprise to an apostolate. Venerable Patrick Peyton was committed to a life of personal prayer, and he invited his teams to do the same. Father Peyton had daily Mass, did adoration almost every day, and prayed several rosaries during the day. It is prayer that helped him to focus on what God was asking of him, and it is prayer that energized him to do the impactful work he did around the world. We, as inheritors of his legacy, are challenged to learn from the witness of his life and be intentional about cultivating an active prayer life on a personal level and as ministry teams.
If we desire to see growth in our local ministry around the world, plugging into the ‘power source’ who is God is critical to our efforts. Psalm 127:1 says - “If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do the builders labor.” The wisdom in the Psalm is that the key to success in any endeavor is that we allow God to be an active part of what we do in ministry. Ministerial plans merely based on human wisdom will never be fruitful or impact the lives of those we minister to. Did you notice that Jesus, before he embarked on active ministry, spent forty days in prayer out the desert? What a powerful example from the Lord of how we need to position ourselves as ministers for fruitful ministry!
Together in Mission,
Rev. Fred Jenga, C.S.C.

In this enriching 16th issue of our Global World at Prayer Newsletter, we delve into the heart of our faith and ministry with the theme "Prayer Sows Life: Cultivating Growth in Our Ministry." Inspired by Pope Francis' declaration of the Year of Prayer, we have embarked on a collective journey to explore the indispensable role of prayer in nurturing our spiritual lives, guiding our decisions, and enriching our community efforts. Prayer, as we believe, is not just a practice but the very soil from which the life of our ministry blossoms. It shapes our leadership, fuels our actions, and transforms our hearts. Through the diverse and inspiring contributions from our global family, this issue stands as a vibrant mosaic of stories, reflections, and testimonies that bear witness to the power of prayer in action. As we present this issue, we invite you to journey with us through the pages, exploring the depths of prayerful living and its transformative impact on both personal and communal growth. Let us together discover how, in the act of turning our hearts towards God, we cultivate a flourishing garden of faith, hope, and love.
Gratefully,
Father Pinto Paul, C.S.C.

It was a beautiful, warm, and sunny day as we gathered on June 1st to remember and celebrate the life of Father Patrick Peyton, our founder. Friends from near and far came to Saint Joseph Chapel in Easton, MA, for a day of music, reflection on the power of intercessory prayer, praying the Holy Rosary, and celebrating a Memorial Mass. Father Bill Lies, C.S.C., Provincial Superior, was the main celebrant, and Father Fred Jenga, C.S.C., President, Holy Cross Family Ministries, with other priests from the Congregation of Holy Cross, concelebrating. Following the Mass, friends were invited to share in fellowship and refreshments.

Holy Cross Church in Easton, MA, hosted The Vigil Project: True Presence Night. Eucharistic Adoration-Music-Witness. An Exceptional Transformative Lenten Experience. This one-night multimedia Lenten program led individuals and families to an encounter with the living God during a time of Eucharistic Adoration. Hearts were opened to this deeper experience of prayer. People of all ages and religious backgrounds were invited to attend this free event, presented by Holy Cross Family Ministries.
Venerable Patrick Peyton, believed a simple truth: the family that prays together stays together. As a child in Ireland, he learned the power of prayer as each night, his family knelt together to pray the Rosary. His message to all families when he reflected on this deeply meaningful experience at such a young age was, 'We Prayed.' He took that experience around the world to millions, and we now honor his devotion to prayer with We Prayed! A Campaign for Family Prayer.
Holy Cross Family Ministries in Easton, MA, offered a Special Healing Mass on April 20th, featuring an inspiring talk by Father James Burasa, C.S.C., of East Africa. The event included praise and worship music, the Holy Rosary, a Eucharistic Holy Hour, and a Vigil Healing Mass, followed by a blessing with St. Joseph's oil through the intercession of St. André Bessette.
Father Burasa, a world-renowned conference and retreat speaker, has a special ministry to the sick and afflicted, drawing large crowds seeking physical, emotional, and spiritual healing through God's grace. It was a blessing and a privilege to welcome him to our area. We invited all families and those seeking personal healing to this special event.
The main purpose of this writing is to gradually introduce families to the practice of praying the Rosary. The emphasis is on a gradual approach, bead by bead. Instead of attempting the entire Rosary at once, consider praying one decade during the week, and then perhaps the entire Rosary on a weekend night. To honor Our Lady in the Month of Mary, on May 1st, Holy Cross Family Ministries invited the community to gather for their Annual May Crowning. Father Fred Jenga, C.S.C., along with the team from HCFM, welcomed many visitors to pray the Holy Rosary, led by Father David Marcham and Father Boby John, C.S.C., as they walked the Rosary Path. This was followed by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The special event concluded with fellowship and refreshments at The Peyton Center in Easton, MA.

Produced by Venerable Patrick Peyton in Los Angeles, Family Theater radio plays launched on the nationwide Mutual Broadcasting System in February 1947 and were some of the longest-running radio shows, continuing to be broadcast until 1968. The radio plays, meant to promote family unity and prayer, are still relevant today.
Father Peyton managed to enlist top writers and musical talent, along with many of the best-known actors and actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood. They include Bing Crosby, Loretta Young, Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Maureen O’Hara, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Raymond Burr, Louise Beavers, Charlton Heston, Ann Blyth, Shirley Temple, Jack Benny, Gene Kelly, Natalie Wood, and Betty White.
Intended for a mainstream audience, the radio plays – comedy and drama – emphasized family values and Catholic principles, but within the context of entertainment.
The three podcasts chosen here all reflect the theme of the effect of prayer on a family: “Little Lost Shepherd” (1948), with Rory Calhoun, Cathy O’Donnell, and Gary Gray; “God and a Red Scooter” (1948), with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum; and “The Hound of Heaven” (1949), about Catholic poet Francis Thompson, with Dan O’Herlihy, Rod O’Connor, and Jack Benny.
Many of the broadcasts have been remastered, with new introductions by Family Theater Productions National Director Father David Guffey, C.S.C., and are available for free on Apple Podcast and Soundcloud. Links to listen can be found at FamilyTheater.org/ClassicRadio.

Please pray for the speedy beatification and canonization of Venerable Patrick Peyton, founder, Holy Cross Family Ministries.
Dear Jesus,
Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to strengthening the families of the world by calling them to pray together every day, especially the Rosary. His message is as important for us now as it was during his life on earth.
We beg you, therefore, to hasten the day of his beatification, so that Your faithful people everywhere will remember his message that The Family That Prays Together Stays Together, will imitate him in his devotion to Your Mother and ours, and will be inspired by His holy life to draw ever closer to You with childlike confidence and love.
Amen.
