Over the last season, "undefeated" is a word that has been sticking out to me more and more.
It all started at the beginning of the summer season. For those of you who don't know, I play on a lot of teams across many sports in BLS - mostly on teams based around our Tuesday Kickball team, JKI. In the first week of summer season, every team connected to JKI came out with a win. As the summer went on, we all started losing, one game at a time, until the only two out of my eight teams were the Wednesday Stamford kickball team, Balls Against Humanity and the Thursday women's kickball team, The Queens of JKI. In the end, only one was able to take home the trophy - the Queens.
So, I decided to do some research. How often can undefeated teams in BLS actually pull out that final win and take home the trophy? Does "undefeated" truly mean "undefeatable?" The answer? A perfect 70% of the time - well, at least in the last two seasons. (And yes, that is across all Big League Sports).
We already touched on two cases from the summer: Balls Against Humanity lost their undefeated streak in the championship against veteran team, Pitching a Tent, and The Queens of JKI pulled out that final victory against Pitch Please. In both the spring and summer seasons, veteran team, TNT, completed their undefeated seasons with trophy wins. Women's kickball team, Where My Pitches At, brought home the championship after an undefeated spring season while Suck My Kick fell short against Baddies and Zaddies in the coed division on the same night. Also in the spring, Bunda FC, completed their undefeated run in Wednesday night soccer. Veteran volleyball team, Hellen Keller, had an undefeated Sunday summer season and lost in the first round of playoffs - effectively ending their trophy run. Basketball team, Get Right or Get Left, clinched their final victory last Sunday to complete their season. One court over, in the first ever season of Big League Pickleball, The Big Dills did the same.
The pressure that an undefeated regular season can put on a team is difficult to fight alone. And let's not forgot about the target it places on you from other teams. Does this mean that undefeated means unstoppable? Possibly. The 70% stat would say so. Although I'm not fully convinced yet.
For the first time since 2020, Big League Sports was left up in the air, having to find a new home for Stamford dodgeball. Players might remember how the last few weeks of the winter season were altered as the YMCA hastily closed their doors for the final time. With dodgeball as the second most popular sport, superstars were concerned - they needed a new home. The YMCA was a staple since the 2011 winter season and BLS had some work ahead of them to replace it.
Enter: The Stamford JCC.
I am able to break the news here that Big League Sports has entered a new partnership with the Stamford JCC! They will be the new hosts for dodgeball. Starting next week, the JCC will also be the new home of Stamford kickball!
Additionally, all Big League Superstars can receive a significant discount on a new JCC membership which allows them access to the JCC facilities such as a full size pool, weight room, and basketball courts! More information on this partnership will be coming in the following weeks!
A lot of BLS Superstars have noticed that after signing up for their fall team, they are no longer on that roster. No, you did not forget to sign up. The new back end system will automatically remove anyone who doesn't pay their league dues. I bring this to your attention because I don't want my readers to miss out on the fun!
Here's how it happens: you sign up, don't pay, and walk away from your computer. The system removes you. You show up on day one to play and boom, your team receives a forfeit because you're not on the roster. So, players, check your sign ups now!
Team captains, all players are now able to sign up for your teams without waiting for you to accept them (a responsibility that I as a captain am glad to give up). The unfortunate side effect of this is that anyone can sign up for your team. So, captains, check your rosters now! Are there any players signed up who aren't supposed to be there? If you find any, send an email to bigleaguesport@gmail.com and they will be removed as long as you send a message quickly!
TNT was able to solidify their THIRD championship in a row! 🔥 Get Right or Get Left joins this list for the first time. Looking forward to see if any remaining teams can join as the last few sports finish up before fall seasons start!
*All champions are two time champions unless otherwise noted.
