At Big League Sports, we've always prided ourselves on being a Social Sports Company - with a capital "S" for Social. For years, our commitment to fostering connections has been evident, from our start-of-season to our end-of-season parties. We've hosted countless flip cup tournaments, beer pong battles, chugging contests, limbo competitions, cornhole showdowns, Jenga battles, game nights, and trivia nights. And soon, get ready for BINGO week! (You heard it here first, apologies to Gino for spoiling the big announcement!) With an ever increasing focus on the social aspect of the league, BLS has changed their Kickball League names to "Kickball and Partying."
Some might argue that "some of these things aren't 'partying.'" And they'd be wrong! The very definition of "partying" is to enjoy oneself at a party or OTHER lively gathering, typically with drinking and music. And let's be honest - there's always drinking and music not too far from these lively events. Our fantastic partner bars - Whiskey Lounge, Brickhouse Bar, and Pete's Saloon - are always willing and ready to offer awesome drink and food specials to perfectly complement our Big League gatherings.
We've observed that over 70 percent of our superstars make their way into the BLS family through kickball. It's our largest group of participants and it's the only sport that always has a bar aspect seamlessly integrated into the experience. This isn't by accident - it's by design. Kickball is inherently fun, thrives on high team numbers, and most importantly - everyone can play it. You don't need a childhood history of having played kickball to learn the game. You can show up, learn the ropes pretty easily, and then either laugh off your hilarious missteps or relive your best moments at the bar afterward.
The world of social interaction is constantly evolving, and BLS has always prided itself on staying ahead of the curve, understanding that different locations have different desires. For example, our Stamford kickball leagues have a weekly flip cup tournament that's become a staple. Meanwhile, our Westchester leagues enjoy a rotating list of unique events, and our Women's Kickball leagues absolutely adore their limbo contests.
This year, we've decided to double down on the "party" for our kickball leagues, officially changing their name to "Kickball and Partying!" This will mean more themed nights, more structured social opportunities, and more chances to do what we all truly came to kickball to do: meet people, forge genuine connections, and find our "squads"! Everyone is looking for their next best friend, a potential significant other, an adventure buddy, or simply a great group of people to hang out with. That's precisely why Big League exists.
Recognizing that kickball is often the "gateway drug" into the wonderful world of social sports, we're putting even more emphasis on the sport that started it all. It's the perfect low-pressure environment where anyone can play, have fun, and even excel. So, if you're among the 30% of BLS Superstars who haven't yet experienced the magic of kickball, give it a shot! You'll meet incredible people, have a blast, and undoubtedly wonder how you ever went so long without "Kickball and Partying."
Every year, it feels like there's one day of the week that Mother Nature consistently targets with rain. This season, however, she's decided to spread the love a little too broadly. So far, every outdoor league in our social sports community has been affected by the persistent rain. After chatting with other local sports leagues, it's clear this is a universal issue, making it a truly challenging season for outdoor social sports.
Our Monday and Wednesday Softball league has taken the biggest hit so far, with four rainouts under its belt - one Monday and three Wednesdays. Our kickball, football, and soccer leagues have all seen two rainouts. Tuesday and Thursday kickball saw their rainouts mid season while Saturday got delayed before they could even start. It's tough on team momentum, but our players have shown incredible flexibility. Credit must be given to our Wednesday Soccer and Thursday Women's Kickball leagues who have made the best of it. They didn’t just get rained on - they kept playing through the showers, showing us all what dedication (and maybe a little mud-loving spirit) looks like.
Still, the beauty of playing with Big League Sports is that we don’t just cancel and move on. While other leagues may leave you high and dry - or, in this case, wet and disappointed - we always find a way to make up missed games. This past Friday, our Thursday kickball league took to the fields to keep the season on track.
Rain may be winning some early battles, but thanks to our players’ flexibility and commitment - and a little creative scheduling - BLS is winning the war. See you on the (hopefully dry) field!
Many people have been asking how the newest Stamford leagues are going! Both softball and volleyball recently had their scramble weeks. Take a peek below at the fun!
With the Spring season coming to a close this month, we will see which leagues that took a break over the winter can get themselves on the back-to-back board! Check back next month to see who made it!
