Author's Note: Happy last day of May! Thank you all for continuing to ask for the May Edition...Here it is! The spring is a busy time for me as I play, ref, and manage a combination of 10 different leagues weekly. I absolutely LOVE getting back into the outdoor sports. See you all on the field/court :)
If you’ve ever played in one of Big League Sports’ most beloved leagues — Holiday Kickball in Stamford — then you already know that themed weeks are part of what makes the season so unforgettable. From outrageous costumes to chaotic rule changes, Holiday Kickball has become known for embracing the fun side of the game.
And if you played during the 2025 season, you probably remember the addition of a new themed week. Savannah Bananas-inspired kickball was filled with energy, laughs, and most importantly...FUN.
Players loved it so much that BLS decided one night simply wasn’t enough.
This summer, Tuesday Night Coed Kickball is officially going BANANAS.
With rules inspired by the wildly entertaining world of Banana Ball made famous by the Savannah Bananas, BLS is introducing a full season packed with creative rules, social energy, and unpredictable fun designed to keep every game exciting from start to finish. Summer has always been one of the most laid back and social seasons in BLS. With players traveling throughout the summer months and teams focused more on fun than fierce competition, it felt like the perfect opportunity to shake things up and create a completely different experience.
While the rules aren’t exactly the same as Banana Ball baseball, they’re heavily inspired by the FUN and entertainment that made the Savannah Bananas a nationwide phenomenon. So what can players expect this season?
Rule #1: Win the Inning, Win the Point!
Straight from Banana Ball itself, every inning before the final inning is worth just ONE point. Whichever team scores more runs in that inning earns the point — regardless of the total runs each team scored.
But don’t relax too early…
In the FINAL inning, all runs count. No lead is safe. Every inning matters.
Rule #2: Walkin’ Ain’t Easy!
If you've seen a Banana Ball game, you know there's no such thing as a traditional walk. Well, BLS adapted this rule and made it their own. Traditional kickball walks are gone.
Once Ball 3 is thrown (as long as the pitch is inside the kicking box), the ball becomes LIVE. The kicker must sprint to first while the catcher attempts to throw them out before they get there. Think fast. Run faster.
Rule #3: The Double Tap Trick Play! (Check out the video below to see this in action!)
Trick plays have always been a huge part of Banana Ball, but they didn't used to have an affect on the game itself. In BLS, they will make an impact from day 1.
Three times per game, a player can intentionally keep a live ball in the air by tapping it to a teammate. If the second player completes the catch, the play counts as TWO outs. The second out can roll over if necessary. That’s right — teamwork, trick plays, and athletic chaos are officially encouraged.
Rule #4: The Golden Kicker
Once per game, a team may insert — NOT replace — any player into the kicking order at any time.
Need a clutch kick? Need your superstar in a big moment? The Golden Kicker is ready.
Rule #5: Color Wins!
A classic BLS-style twist inspired by the spirit of Banana Ball.
Each week, players will receive a secret color before game night. Any player wearing SOMETHING that color receives an extra strike in every at-bat. (And I'll tell you a secret...Week 1's secret color will be yellow, so start looking for something yellow to wear week 1!)
In Tuesday Night Kickball Goes BANANAS: Fashion matters. Strategy matters. Chaos definitely matters.
And honestly… this may only be the beginning.
Big League is already exploring ways to bring even more entertainment elements into the season, including potential team performances and additional surprises throughout the summer.
Since this is the very first season of Tuesday Kickball Goes BANANAS, some rules may be adjusted and tweaked throughout the season to ensure the best possible playing experience for every superstar taking the field.
One thing is certain though:
This summer won’t look like any kickball season BLS has ever seen before. 🍌

As the spring season begins to wind down, we will see if any teams returning from fall and late fall outdoor sports can bring the trophy back home!
*All champions are two time champions unless otherwise noted.
Did you know: When BLS dodgeball first started - up to just a few years ago - EVERY player left on the court counted as a point?!? That meant after one round a score could jump from 0-0 to 6-0.
Now teams only get one point per round they win!
