Big League Sports is built on community and connection. Every so often, it delivers something even bigger than a championship win. Last Februrary, we brought the spotlight to three different types of connections formed in BLS. This February, to continue celebrating those connections, we’re spotlighting three couples whose relationships started on the field and grew through league nights, post-game hangs, and a whole lot of chemistry.
Glenni & DJ
For Glenni and DJ, it all started on the dodgeball court - and it didn’t take long for things to heat up.
Glenni first noticed DJ during one of her early nights reffing dodgeball, when he pulled off a ridiculous one-on-six round for Revolt. Her reaction?
“Who hurt you?” she asked. That playful jab quickly turned into banter, compliments, and eventually a post-game bar hang neither of them wanted to end. By the end of the night, it was clear this wasn’t just league flirting - it was something real.
Now, playing in the same league is central to their relationship. Both come from competitive backgrounds, and they see sports as their shared love language. “There’s a lot of joking, a little intensity, and constant support,” they say. “Nothing beats competing alongside someone who’s always in your corner.”
They credit the league with helping them grow together, communicate better, and build something strong - plus, it never hurts that it comes with weekly post-game hangs. As they put it, their relationship is a lot like their favorite sport because, “…it’s all about communication, trust, and making decisions that help us win as a team.”
Glenni:
Softball is my favorite BL Sports game. Like any great team sport, success comes from chemistry and collaboration and that’s exactly how our relationship works.
DJ:
Football is my favorite big-league sport. It takes strategy, communication, and commitment, all working toward the same goal. For me, that goal is building something strong and lasting together.
Lindsey & Craig
Lindsey and Craig’s story officially kicked off during the 2021 Holiday Kickball season - though Lindsey insists they technically met earlier (something Craig may or may not remember). While they may have been on opposing teams in Stamford, the sparks flew anyway.
Things moved quickly. Shortly after their first date, they both caught COVID and quarantined together - an unexpected fast track that gave them time to really connect. Then came Lindsey’s knee surgery, during which Craig showed up, bonded with her mom, and won over her cat. That’s when Lindsey knew.
Their Big League Sports memories are filled with standout moments, but one recent highlight stands above the rest: the 2025 Kickies - a yearly awards celebration for their kickball team. Lindsey was inducted into the Hall of Fame, with Craig delivering the speech - one year after his own induction.
On the field, they’ve learned a lot about each other as leaders. Craig admires Lindsey’s willingness to step up when the team needs her, while Lindsey praises Craig’s ability to lead without taking things too seriously - always keeping morale high.
When asked for advice for couples who meet in the league, Craig in classic Craig fashion says, “Get COVID,” before adding the real takeaway: be honest, treat people with respect, and don’t burn bridges. After all, the Big League community is bigger than any one relationship.
If their relationship had a team name? Ballsy and Bookish.
Courtney & Allan
Allan and Courtney’s story began on the kickball field, but for both of them, the league represented something bigger from the start. “I joined to build a social circle,” Allan says. Courtney continues, “I was hoping to meet someone special and make friends. Seeing it actually happen has been wild.”
Early on, it was clear they shared the same competitive spirit - and looked out for each other.
“One of my favorite memories is just playing catch,” Allan says. “She was the only woman I’d met who could throw hard and accurately.”
Courtney remembers a moment that showed her who Allan really was. “I hurt my knee sliding in softball, and Allan made sure I had ice right away,” she says. “That’s when I knew he was a great guy.”
As devoted Yankee fans, sharing that passion has always been part of their relationship - bringing their competitive energy to the stands. “We love watching baseball and cheering for the same teams,” Allan says.
“And having things to do together - kickball, softball, Yankees games, even podcasts - keeps us connected,” Courtney adds.
Now married and preparing to welcome their first child, they’re already thinking about the next chapter. When I asked them what they think their BLS future looks like, here's what they both said.
“I hope we can both keep playing,” Allan says.
“Of course our future MVP will be at Saturday kickball,” Courtney confirms.
My final question to them: how is your growing family like your team? They agreed, “You do what’s best for everyone - and you roll with whatever comes your way.”
From bold dodgeball introductions to kickball connections that turned into couples, engagements, and the beginnings of families, these stories are proof that Big League Sports is about more than just the game. Sometimes, it’s about finding your people.
And if you're lucky, you might find your person.
Happy Valentine's Day!
2026 is starting off STRONG (pun intended) with a major announcement - the addition of our newest partner SPEAR Physical Therapy!
What makes this collaboration even more special is that it’s built on direct ties to our community. One of our very own players, Meg, is part of the SPEAR team, making this a true "leaguer-to-leaguer" connection. We couldn't be more excited to work with a company that already understands the heart and hustle of our leagues.
If you’ve ever sprinted down a soccer field, chased a kickball into the outfield, lined up a pickleball serve, or dove for a volleyball, you know that staying healthy is key to continuing to play the sports you love. That’s where SPEAR comes in.
SPEAR is a nationally recognized physical therapy practice based in New York with additional locations in Connecticut and New Jersey, known for expert, personalized care that helps people move better, perform stronger, and stay active for the long haul. For adult athletes, SPEAR takes a performance-driven approach that bridges rehabilitation and return to play - treating not just pain or injury, but the real demands of your sport.
What makes SPEAR stand out from other Physical Therapy providers? Rather than quick fixes, SPEAR focuses on long-term movement health. Their clinicians look at how your body moves, how your sport challenges it, and what it takes to get you back on the field, court, or pitch with confidence. Many members of the SPEAR team are athletes themselves, so not only do they understand what it means to train, compete, and push your limits, but they understand how important it is to stay healthy enough to continue to perform at your best. What truly sets SPEAR apart is the combination of clinical excellence, sports-specific expertise, and an unmatched culture of care. Athletes can expect thoughtful, individualized treatment, clear communication, and a team that’s genuinely invested in their goals. At SPEAR, you’re not just another appointment - you’re a person with seasons, ambitions, and a life beyond the clinic.
SPEAR’s Westchester clinics offer comprehensive care while maintaining a consistently high standard across locations. Athletes have access to a wide range of specialties, including vestibular therapy, pelvic health, pediatric care, TPI/golf-focused rehab, and clinicians with strong strength and conditioning backgrounds. With extended weekday hours and select Saturday availability, SPEAR makes it easier to fit care into even the busiest schedules.
This partnership feels especially meaningful because it’s already personal.
Megan Leibowitz, PT, DPT, a physical therapist at SPEAR and an active Big League Sports participant, first joined BLS looking for exactly what many of our players value most: community through sport. “I was looking for community in a space where I could play a sport I love - soccer - but also try new ones like volleyball without feeling judged,” Meg shared. “Big League Sports was exactly what I was looking for.”
That shared belief in inclusivity, community, and joyful movement is what makes this collaboration such a natural fit. Both Big League Sports and SPEAR believe sports should be accessible, supportive, and fun - at every level.
Welcome to the Big League family, SPEAR! We are thrilled to have you on the sidelines (and in the clinics) with us this year.
