One of the best parts of playing in Big League Sports isn’t just what happens on the field - it’s what happens after. Many BLS leagues have a partner bar attached, and as someone who plays in leagues multiple nights a week, I’ve had plenty of experiences in each of them. Every bar brings its own personality, perks, and quirks - unique menus, drink specials, and atmospheres. But there's always one thing you can count on - there will be a Big League Shot!
So let's take a closer look at each of the post game spots our players frequent each week.
Having been the partner bar for all Westchester kickball leagues and Sunday football, Whiskey Lounge is a staple for a reason. No matter which night you show up, there’s usually a solid amount of seating available, which is a huge plus for larger kickball crowds. With the bar setup, there is also some good space to move around and chat with people from other teams. Some areas can feel more congested, but overall there is great potential for intermingling or just hanging in one spot - whatever fits your mood that particular day.
The vibe at Whiskey is energetic, bordering on lively - sometimes very lively. The music can get loud, which means it’s not always the easiest place for long conversations, but it absolutely delivers on atmosphere.
Whiskey does offer a solid specials menu - with a variety of apps, a few staple entrees, and a mix of drink specials. This is the only place you can get a bucket - 5 cans for one price. While it’s not a BLS deal, my favorite order is tequila citrus wings with a side of fries - and cheese on the side. If you see me at Whiskey, I will almost always have that side of cheese for my fries. If you like a good cheese sauce, Whiskey is the place for you.
As the partner bar for softball, dodgeball, and soccer, Pete's needed to come with a different feel - and it truly does. There are plenty of tables in the front near the bar, and more in the back if you're looking for a more secluded area to spread out. While there is good space to intermingle, the restaurant feel doesn't always lend itself to easily walking around, but every night is a little different here.
The vibe? Pete’s Saloon feels like home. The restaurant-style setup makes it easy to settle in, relax, and actually feel like a regular - which, in turn, creates a closer, more familiar relationship with the wait staff. That “everyone knows your name” energy goes a long way after a game.
One of the standout perks here is the BLS menu. It changes and updates regularly, which keeps things fresh and avoids that played-out feeling some specials menus can get. Food-wise, Pete’s has a solid burger. I'm also a huge fan of their pretzel - which you can get with salt or cinnamon sugar depending on if you're in a salty or sweet mood.
Our newest partner bar and the first one we touch on in Stamford, Vinny’s Backyard, comes out of the gate strong. There’s a decent amount of seating, but the layout doesn’t easily encourage intermingling with other teams or players the way some other spots do. It is possible to move around and chat, but it is not necessarily easy.
Vinny's Backyard's vibe is exactly what you'd expect with a name like that - chill. Its not too loud to chat with others, there's lots of decor on the walls to act as great conversation starters, and the wait staff are very friendly and available.
Their specials menu feels like it has some of the best deals across all partner bars, making it an easy win for post-game budgets. Vinny's is famous for their wings - which are great, but my personal favorite is their cheese pizza! I'm also a huge sucker for a Jell-o shot - probably my favorite thing on their menu.
Sign of the Whale marks the return of a former partner bar, and even with just one visit under my belt, it made a strong impression. The space itself is a major plus: large enough for plenty of seating, but also open enough that you can move around, mingle, and catch up with players from other teams. It’s the kind of setup that reminds you why these partner bars matter in the first place.
The vibes are immaculate - especially during the holiday season. The wait staff are incredibly knowledgeable about our specials menu, which always makes things smoother for big groups.
While I haven't had a chance to try out the specials menu yet - just look at it! Sign of the Whale boasts the most extensive menu a BLS partner bar has to offer. The thing I'm most excited to try? The buffalo chicken dip and a classic margarita.
Whether you’re there for the food, the deals, the vibes, or just another excuse to hang out with your teammates, each partner bar brings something unique to the table. The games might be the foundation, but these spots are where friendships and camaraderie are truly forged.
As this year comes to a close, it’s worth taking a second to remember why Big League Sports exists. Sure, we all love the thrill of a walk-off home run or a perfect spike, but if we’re being honest, the real wins happen in the connections you make.
We see it every week: teams that started as strangers becoming inseparable friend groups. We see opposing teams buying each other Big League Shots at the bar after a close game. We see people finding roommates, best friends, and even future spouses right here on our fields.
In the coming year, let’s keep that energy alive - play hard, chase that championship - but remember that the player across the field or court is here for the same reasons you are.
So, whether you’re winning by 10 or losing by 10, keep the vibes high. High-five your opponents, respect the calls, and make sure you’re hitting the partner bar afterwards. Because years from now, you might not remember the score of a random Tuesday night game, but you’ll definitely remember the friends you made playing it.
See you on the field (and at the bar),
