April 2023 marked the start of a new era for Big League Sports with the addition of the all women's kickball division. The women's league provided an opportunity for new and returning ladies to shine. Superstar Nicole Quattrocchi (Where My Pitches At) said, "Joining women's kickball was the best decision of [2023]! Every week I looked forward to getting on the field and playing against some friendly competition. I have made so many amazing friendships from this sport and I can't wait to make more memories this season!" With the addition of the women's league, new female superstars were welcomed into an atmosphere that was supportive and encouraging, allowing them to build skills and confidence. "Women's league allowed me to develop confidence in a more supportive environment before also joining coed leagues...The atmosphere also helps allow women to show their skill and athletic ability that sometimes may get overlooked or overshadowed in coed," said Superstar Kate Jones (I'll Cut a Pitch).
New superstars weren't the only ladies excited by the women's division. Returning female superstars were excited to play new positions, kick in new parts of the lineup, and try new things. Superstar Keegan Reed (Pitch Please) is a veteran coed kickball player. She has always enjoyed the sport, "but when the women's kickball league was added it was even more enjoyable. There is definitely still a competitiveness in the women's league but there are also more opportunities for friendship, not just on your team, but between teams as well. It also tends to provide the opportunity to kick more and play different positions on the field." From the spring to the fall, women's league evolved. Friendships formed and teams grew. It became clear through the year that the competition was evening out and any team could win. Each season had a new champion. Superstar Lindsey Bubka started on the Queens of JKI, but spent her summer season helping a new team - Pitch Please - grow. "I played on two teams. One with more established players and one with newer faces. This not only helped me develop bonds with both sets of girls, but it helped me increase my leadership skills. I took on the role as co-captain for the newer team. I explained the rules, helped them with plays, tried out different positions, and I got to see them develop from beginners to a formidable team."
Linsdey wasn't the only veteran asked to help a new team. Superstar Halli Stewart (Where My Pitches At) was asked to captain a team of free agents in the inaugural spring season. She admitted she was hesitant at first because she was already playing in coed, but once she took the opportunity it turned out to be one of the best decisions she's made.
Here's what Halli had to say: "I've been involved with BLS for about two years and the women's league changed the game for me - it is such a fun community of girls that has grown into an amazing league in the past year. It is for sure still competitive but still has a supportive community...teams and players succeed especially when they get to excel in positions they may not have had a chance to play in coed...I love that women's league has brought in so many new girls to the BLS community...I love my team and all the fun we have on and off the field because after all, who runs the world? GIRLS!"
Check out these teams across the league who have taken home trophies in at least two consecutive seasons*! These champions all continue to dominate in their respective sports. Congratulations on your wins and good luck in your next seasons!
Can any of these teams keep their streak and make it into the next edition?!
*All champions are two time champions unless otherwise noted.
