Some, like the mildew, attack; others are beneficial. A single leaf hosts millions of microbes, sometimes hundreds of different types. The ones living within the plant’s tissues are called endophytes. Plants acquire many of these microbes from the soil and air; some are passed from generation to generation through seeds. The friendly microbes assist with growth and photosynthesis or help plants survive in the face of drought and other stressors. ..."

“In de bosbouw heeft men bij het telen van hout reeds lange tijd ingezien, dat bij een doelmatig beheer het werken met plannen op lange termijn noodzakelijk was. Een dermate langdurig en kapitaalintensief productieproces als dat van hout, waarbij eens gemaakte fouten lang doorwerken, kan zonder een doordachte planning economisch niet efficiënt zijn.” Dat schreef Piet Faber van het toenmalige Bosbouwproefstation ‘De Dorschkamp’ (een van de voorlopers van WENR) in 1972 in het Nederlands Bosbouwtijdschrift.

En op hun waardering van het schoolplein? " In 2015 deed Het Groene Brein in opdracht van het Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat (toen het Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu) onderzoek naar duurzaam onderwijs. Uit het onderzoek kwam dat 4 procent van het primair onderwijs bezig is met duurzaam onderwijs, 9 procent van het voortgezet onderwijs, 7 procent van het hoger beroepsonderwijs en 11 procent van het wetenschappelijk onderwijs. Niet echt cijfers die je laten jubelen. Gelukkig is er steeds meer aandacht voor het onderwerp.
Oproep in de krant
Zo plaatsten negentig hoogleraren van achttien verschillende universiteiten vorig jaar en oproep richting de overheid in de krant: “Maak Nederland koploper in de nieuwe, groene economie.” Als belangrijke voorwaarde werd een plek voor duurzaamheid in het onderwijs genoemd. ..."
