Dundalk offers some fun and interesting activities to all visitors.
That morning the sun was shining and the weather was extraordinary. We were to explore Dundalk in a different way: doing a Gymkhana in which several groups had to answer some questions about Dundalk.
The aim was to encourage participants to engage with local people to find the answers.
Dundalk enjoys a great location, strategically situated approximately midway between the two largest cities on the island of Ireland, Belfast and Dublin. It sits where the Castletown River flows into Dundalk Bay. The town is close to the border with Northern Ireland and equi-distant from Dublin and Belfast. Dundalk is one of the most historical parts of Ireland. Rich in heritage, many of the famous Irish legends and epics were based in the wonderful landscape around here.
Medieval castles and ruined monasteries, high crosses, dolmens and cairns, are aplenty ensuring the past lives on to allow us to relive Louth’s turbulent and glorious history.
Dundalk has undergone multiple regeneration projects in recent years to preserve its built heritage. Trough the Selfie Murals Tour, we were able to know about many Irish historical figures such as Saint Oliver Plunkett, Roesia de Verdun or Thomas Coulter.
