Saint Fin Barre’s Catedral is a Gotic Church in Cork. It is situated near the river Lee and its name is dedicated to Finbarre, the patron Saint of Cork. It was built in the 7th century and it has three towers.
There are many interesting things to see at Cork Cathedral, such as sculptures and an old pipe organ dating back to 1870. Inside, the cathedral is impressive, with its use of Cork limestone and marble. Outside, there are numerous intricately carved stone details on the exterior.
Burges designed most of the inside, like the mosaic floor, the altar, the pulpit, and the bishop's throne. The narrow and unusually high marble nave, made from red and puce stone, is supported by big columns that hold up the central tower and spire.
What we liked the most about the cathedral was the organ. We were surprised by the organ pipes when I saw them. Currently, it is the largest organ in Ireland. It was built in 1870 by William Hill & Sons. It consisted of three manuals, more than 4,500 tubes and 40 stops. The main organ used a tubular-pneumatic action, with follow-up action for the other two manuals. The organ has had many revisions and repairs.
In 2010, the organ's electrical system was unreliable, so Trevor Crowe was hired to rebuild and increase the tube count, as well as make tonal improvements, including a 32′ extension to the pedal trombone. The project cost €1.2 million and took three years to complete.
One of our students had the opportunity to play the piano in the cathedral. It was a beautiful experience.
Also we had the oppportunity to do an interview about the cathedral.

Title of the Artwork: Portrait of Lennox Robinson
Artist´s name:Margaret Clarke
Date of creation: 1926
Seated on a cane-backed chair against a grey-blue background, then 40-year-old playwright Lennox Robinson (1886-1958) is dressed in a dark jacket, theatrical red shirt and dark bowtie. Holding our gaze through metal-framed spectacles, Portrait of Lennox Robinson (1926) by Margaret Clarke presents its subject as both still and restless. Considering the plays originating in other countries of the period, Robinson noted that “being brought into touch with other minds who have different values of life, suddenly we shall discover the rich material that lies to our hand in Ireland”.
