Elayne began doing acrylic painting in the fall of 2019 at the Woburn Public Library and fell in love with acrylic pouring. Her acrylic works are a combination of both pouring and painting and most always have reflections of golden light somewhere in the painting.
The ready-made pourings Elayne uses are from Artist's Loft. See the Acrylic Paints page for a list. Elayne also creates her own pourings by adding 1/2 Elmer's Glue to 1/2 water and stirring then adding 50% of an acrylic color and stirring. She will then add more of an ingredient, if necessary, to get the right texture.
The tools Elayne uses for acrylic work are:
Table coverings of trash bags that are easy to wipe clean (Elayne prefers white); at some point she might try a silicone mat.
Paper towels (a must for wiping off bottles, messy areas, and her hands)
Large deep baking pan with the inside wrapped in tin foil as the base for pourings
Small paper cups turned upside down to hold the canvas aloft for pouring
Acrylic paints and acrylic pourings
Wooden stirrers for making pouringsĀ
Sponges and brushes
Drink-size hot cups with paint pucks for cleaning brushes and sponges before a more thorough wash in the sink (hot cups are more sturdy than cold drink cups)
A plastic artist pallet for regular acrylic paints
Gold glitter or Martha Stewart's Multi-Surface gold acrylic paint
Tin foil pieces for placing drying canvases
A black Sharpie permanent marker for labeling the back of the canvas with artist name, date and title of the painting
Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating for finalizing larger canvases; Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish for smaller
Sawtooth hangers for the back of the canvas board
