This was an adventure I had longed to do on a motorbike and it was certainly a very exciting and enjoyable trip.
A big thanks to my wife who gave me a travel Visa for this trip.
It was only after the adventure that I realized the total distance travelled is greater than the shortest distance from Cape Town to Cairo (approx 10,000 km).
The following table provides some useful statistics for others who wish to plan a similar trip. Currency conversions included in the table below : Namibia ZAR1.00 = 1ND, Zambia ZAR1.3 = 1K, Botswana ZAR1.35 = P1.
If I did a long trip again, and there was one place in each country that I could include in my trip, they would be:
South Africa - Cedarberg in the Western Cape
Namibia - Swakopmund
Zambia - Eagle Nest Lodge on Lake Kariba (I think you will get a similar experience at sites on the Zimbabwe side)
Botswana - Savuti Camp in the Delta - You need a 4x4 (Not visited this time)"
Would I do this trip again on a motorbike? I would like to travel through Zimbabwe and Eastern Zambia.
Travelling across South Africa takes you to very similar destinations and landscapes without having to travel very long distances and hassle with border crossings.
