Refer to "Daily Logs" for a summary of my exciting trip.
This WEB site follows Philip's motorbike trip from Gauteng, South Africa, along the East coast to Cape Town on the West coast, up through Namibia, Zambia and Botswana and back to Gauteng.
The route and the duration I spend at each stop-over is not fixed as this will be influenced by the advice from people I meet, the weather and the need to catch-up with laundry.
Each destination is selected on whether it has camping facilities as the plan is to camp as much as possible.
While I will be travelling solo, I welcome fellow adventure riders to contact me at philipj.elliott@gmail.com to join me on any part of the journey.
Refer to the Conclusion for a summary of distances and costs.
My reason for this adventure is:
Travel is the greatest temporary escape from the burdens of life.
The horizon pulls you along while you gather memories of the roads travelled.
The wind blows away the cobwebs and stress and allows the mind to wonder and imagine the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Tuli Adventures posted the following on Facebook that sums up the passion I share:
My friend was also out for a ride alone. It got me thinking. What is the essence of Adventure riding? Is it, the allure of the open road, the feeling of complete freedom and the sense of just getting away from it all? Being completely “In the moment” for a brief while? Not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow. Not obsessing over our worries, pressures, concerns and challenges at work and/or at home?
But there is something more than that for me. Something even better than all of that. It’s the people you meet along the way. The like minded kindred spirits. United and connected by a common love of Adventure biking and Bikes. #makelifearide #livethedream #comeridewithus
