Trip Summary:
Weltevrede offers the traditional Afrikaans hospitality and home cooked hearty food.
The gravel road started off well then gradually deteriorated to severe corrugations. I thought my eyeballs and bike were going to fall apart. I rode at 100km/hr to lesson the impact. It then started getting better.
The scenary changed from flat endless landscapes with nothing growing to mountains, trees and grass.
I went through the scenic Remhoogte Pass on the C24. It had been recently graded so it was a pleasure to ride on. It has some deep dips as you cross the dry river beds and often with soft sand.
I stopped to take a photo of the grader crawling along the road.
I stopped at Rehoboth for an ice cream. It is amazing that often when I stop, people will walk up and stare at the bike, and then at me and ask where I am from and where am I going and then bid me safe riding.

As I got onto the B1 to Windhoek, I noticed a "lamp" warning on the dashboard. I stopped at a roadside rest stop about 20km further and hauled out my spare bulb and replaced it. I think the gravel roads got the better of it. I carry a spare bulb as keeping the bike visible on the road is critical to safety A Taxi and a car stopped to take a break. I got hounded with questions and everyone was very friendly.
As one enters Windhoek there is a permanent roadblock checking vehicles. I am glad I replaced the lamp when I did.
I went straight to Arebbusch Rest Camp in Windhoek and it was fully booked. I recalled passing a camp sign 10km before Windhoek so I drove back and booked in. Again, what a pleasant surprise. From the road, it looks like nothing special. It is in a little nature reserve within a nice setting in the mountain.
When you arrive you must call a number on the gate to get someone to unlock the gate.
I setup camp and then rode back to Windhoek to do shopping for dinner.
Today, Monday, I managed to secure a BMW service for Wednesday.

Great to see grass after 100km's of nothing
