Trip Summary:
Last night I called old friends of ours, Bruce & Michelle, to meet them for breakfast in Jeffrey's Bay at 08h00. Bruce & Michelle were kind enough to cook me delicious eggs and bacon breakfast. It is always good to catch up with them.
I reckon a good bike ride is measured by how many passes you go through. Even more so if they are Gravel passes. Today I went through:
Van Stadens River Bridge
1) Van Stadens Pass [Tar]
2) Paardekop Pass [Gravel]
3) Prince Alfred Pass [Gravel]
4) Potjiesberg Pass [Tar]
5) Montagu Pass [Gravel]
Angies G-Spot Restaurant
View from Paardekop Pass
At the bottom of the Prince Alfred Pass, I stopped at Angies G-Spot for a rest. As I arrived a group of 6 bikers were leaving. I decided to have my main meal of the day and settled for a Road Kill Burger - It was good. The owner grows a lot of their own vegetables and salads but during their busy season, they cannot grow enough.
For future reference, they do have rustic accommodation for weary travellers.
They travel to Plettenberg Bay to do their groceries via the Paardekop Pass.
The temperature through Paardekop and Prince Alfred Passes hovered around 31C.

Montagu Pass
I was supposed to camp at Middle Keurbooms about 6km further on from Angies G-Spot. However when I arrived at the GPS marker, there was no camp site. I decided to continue to Stilbaai which made it a long day in the saddle. The ride through Montagu Pass made is worth while - The road is narrow which makes if challenging when meeting oncoming vehicles.
Accommodation: Camping
The entrance to the Ellensrust Camp site is not that well marked so I drove past it before realizing my GPS was instructing me to make a U-turn. I arrived at 17h00 and the entrance was closed. I called the after hours number and Gary opened the gates for me. I was the 2nd camper on site. During the evening a couple more campers arrived.
The caravan park also had chalets that looked well maintained.
I think the previous camp sites I visited spoilt me as this camp site was a let down as far as the setting is concerned.
While the camp sites had water & electricity, they did not have braai facilities and very few had trees for shade. Due to the drought the grass was unfortunately dead.
The ablusions were clean however they did not have toilet paper. Luckily I do carry my own reserve supply.
