Trip Summary:
The wind blew most of the night. I woke up at 05h45 and thought I would doze for another 30 min as the sun would be shining onto the tent by then. I woke up at 08h15. Oh well …. Why worry?
Today was another good ride despite the wind - No passes but most of the route to Stilbaai was gravel road. You could see the impact the drought was having on the farms.
From Stilbaai I headed to Witsand where I had breakfast at the Koffie Klets and Information Centre situated in the Barry and Nephews Woolshed that was built in 1830's.
Thereafter I headed to Malasgas where you take the only manually operated ferry in South Africa across the Bree River (Cost is R25 and you must give the correct amount as they do not give change). This is operated by two men pulling it along.

Next stop was Waenhuiskrans / Arniston. This is a really beautiful town, however I decided it was not suitable for camping. The camp site offered no view but did offer protection from the wind. I hope that my preference to a view over protection from the wind pays off. Also, you had to drive to get to the beach or restaurant. I decided to continue to Struisbaai.

The first thing I did on arriving at Struisbaai was to pitch my tent in case of rain later on. It was blowing gales so I used an extra 4 tent pegs to secure the tent. After I had pitched my tent my friendly neighbour Chris, came over and advised that I use extra rope and pegs as the previous day, the wind had blown someone elses tent away and their awning had taken strain. I went to the hardware store and bought additional pegs and secured the tent.
I took a ride to Cape Agulhas, the most southern town in Africa.
I took a 1,5km stroll along the boardwalk to the harbour for dinner at the Pelican Harbour Cafe and enjoyed fish and salads.
When I returned to the camp site a German couple had setup camp next to me. Otto and his wife came over and chatted about their travel plans over the next 5 weeks. I may bump into them in Namibia.

Accommodation: Camping
My wife & I have camped at Struisbaai caravan park previously. The park is right on the beach front so it has a great setting. The manager did warn that there was no security on duty so I must take precaution against petty theft.
The park has no trees and no protection from the wind.
Ablutions are clean and well maintained.
Each camp site has water and electricity and during a good rainy season, there is grass as well.
