Trip Summary:
It was 6C when I woke up at 06h00. I was packed and just before I departed at 07h00, I stopped at reception to settle my bill.
I stopped in Francistown to refuel before heading to the Zanzibar Border crossing into South Africa.
I stopped about 10km before Tsetsebye for my breakfast of coffee and rusks.
The border was quick and easy to get through and the drive across the Limpopo river to South Africa included a lovely ride along a gravel road though lovely trees. There was evidence of Elephant and large buck along the route.
The R561 road from the South African border is gravel. Although there is thick sand in places, speed and momentum gets you across with ease.
The R572 road is a terrible tar road with many potholes until it joins the R510 - Not as bad as the roads in Zambia. It was weird passing a Graaff Reinet sign along this section as I thought there was only one place called this in the Eastern Cape - For a second I thought I had taken a wrong turn somewhere.
The Limpopo River
The R510 road from Ellisras (Lephalale) to Thabazimbi is a good road that winds through lovely countryside.
As you approach Thabazimbi you go through part of the beautiful Waterberg Mountains. I must remember to revisit this part of the country as it is really beautiful with lots of game farms. I saw a number of wild animals along this section.
I stopped in Thabazimbi to refuel and have something to eat at the Wimpy. It was 15h00 and I calculated that home is only 200km away. I then realised that getting home was a high priority and decided to head home.
The R511 road between Thabazimbi and Britz takes you through lovely farmlands. I was not aware that this area produces so much cotton.
I arrived home at 17h24 and it was a great feeling having achieved my objective with only one unplanned expense (i.e. The Botswana traffic fine) and no serious incident.
North, South, East, West ..... Home is always best.
Thank you Lynne for giving me this fantastic opportunity .... I owe you.
