Trip Summary:
Jerry and I had a good dinner and I slept the best I have in 30 days.
Jerry's domestic made eggs and bacon for breakfast to fuel me for the next leg of the journey.
Thanks Jerry for your great hospitality.
The drive South along the T2 road was easy going with the normal Police checkpoints, trucks and humps across the road. This means your average moving speed is about 70km/hr.
As you descend to Kafue town, the vegetation changes as it appears a bit dryer along this section.
The section of the T2 road before the M15 turn-off takes you along a winding road through the mountains. The roads are lined with large indigenous trees. One needs to drive carefully as there are a number of bad potholes. While driving through Zambia, this is the only section of road where I actually saw people repairing the road.
This part of the country is definitely dryer as the rivers are not flowing.
As usual, when I arrived at Eagle Nest, I pitched the tent and then headed to the bar for a beer. It was great as I was the only person camping so I could select the best site.
I then proceeded to catch-up with some laundry before settling down with a cup of coffee and my computer.
While enjoying life on the beach, I heard a Fish Eagle call, however I could not see it. The trees in the camp site is also the home to a variety of birds.
Apparently one of the guests has lived at Eagles Nest in his boathouse for over 4 years.
The grass in the camp sites is lovely and lush and I was informed that the hippo come out at night to eat the grass so I must be careful.
As the evening closed in, boats started appearing on the dam. I counted at least 20. Most were on the Zimbabwe side of the dam. Apparently they spend the night fishing. Bream is one of the main fish they catch and that is my dinner for tonight. I have never eaten Bream before so I hope it is good.

Accommodation: Camping
Eagle Nest Lodge was recommended by Jerry and his colleagues.
It is really beautiful with large chalets, pretty campsites and a restaurant and bar.
The electrical plugs at some camp sites do not work, however this provides a good excuse to sit at the restaurant and use their electricity and have a beer or two.
The setting is very rustic along with the ablutions. The ablutions were clean with hot water but need maintenance.
The water along the beach is warm however you are not allowed to swim due to crocodiles and hippo.
I can imagine the place has a terrific atmosphere during the holiday season. I enjoyed the piece and quiet.
The receptionist said that security was not a problem, however one should ensure valuables are locked up (pretty standard wherever you go).
