The Carbon Poppies have officially returned after an almost 4-year hiatus! Released 2/03/23, "Strangers" was made to celebrate the band's 10-year anniversary of their 2012 EP, "And Don't the Kids Just Love It." I find "Strangers" to be the Poppies' best EP yet, and I'll be going over all 3 songs!
Strangers - Released as the title track for the EP, Strangers had been a frequently performed song for years before it was actually recorded! I find this song similar to those of the 2018 "Rain on My Face" EP, the band's previous work. Overall, this is a great song, that continues the Carbon Poppies' retro indie-pop sound!
Never Go Outside - Recorded February 19, 2020, you could say this song was practically a prediction of the future. Despite having nothing to do with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the song's lyrics are eerily similar to the issues many faced during lockdown in America. Overall, this is a great song with a deep meaning that was ahead of its time!
In Two - The Carbon Poppies' longest song (clocking in at 4:04) is also my personal favorite! This song has a catchy melody that is easy to remember! The song was nearly used for the previous 2 EPs, but was chosen for this EP! It is definitely the catchiest song, but in a good way!
Overall, I think despite the band's brief hiatus, they have proven that they're still a talented band with lots of potential! I give this EP a rating of 4/5 stars! It is similar to previous Carbon Poppies work, but it brings some new elements to their band! - Elliott Dudoit
