In case you haven't noticed, or if you're new to this site, I have really gotten into electronic music lately! I have especially gotten into forms of EDM such as dubstep. One thing about electronic music that makes it so unique is the amount of artists who collaborate by remixing each other's songs, making for a unique twist on the song itself. Sometimes remixes make a song better, sometimes they make it much worse, but no matter how good or bad the remix is, it almost always has something new or interesting to bring!
With that said, here are 35 remixes of primarily electronic songs that I have compiled into a playlist! Once I reach 70 songs on the playlist, I will be sure to make another article! Oh, and just a spoiler alert: There are a lot of Illenium songs on here. It might be wrong to admit, but he is my favorite electronic artist, so I had to make sure he was well represented! Anyway, here's the list:
Illenium - Free Fall (feat. RUNN) [Kompany Remix]. This list is in no particular order, so it's kinda funny that the first song just so happens to be arguably my favorite remix of all the songs that will be featured in this article! Kompany is a really cool artist. Unlike Illenium, his music focuses more on beat drops than melody, yet he manages to flawlessly intertwine the two styles in his remix of "Free Fall." It starts out pretty chill, just like the original song, but the first drop will instantly give you some serious energy! The second drop is also pretty high energy, but that one is definitely a little weirder. However, I mean "weirder" in the best way possible!
The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down (feat. Daya) [Illenium Remix]. This is probably one of Illenium's most famous remixes. He makes the song, which is already a well known track, a little bit more of a melodic dubstep track. I really like that the song itself is still very catchy! It's well worth a listen!
Illenium & Sueco - Story of My Life (feat. Trippie Redd) [Heavy Edit]. You may notice that the word "Remix" does not appear anywhere in the title of this song. That is because this is an edit. The difference between an edit and a remix is that a remix is the changing of an entire song, while an edit only changes a few parts of a song. In this case, the edit made the song heavier, by adding more intense guitars, beat drops, and even the vocals are more intense with a lot more screaming involved. Personally, I like this edit more than the original song, because it's a much more exciting version that pumps up your adrenaline!
Benny Benassi - Cinema (feat. Gary Go) [Skrillex Remix]. Whether you recognize the title or not, chances are pretty high that you've heard this one before! It's pretty much a classic remix at this point. I think the most recognizable part is probably the "D-D-D-D-D-D-DROP THE BASS" that comes in right before the first beat drop! If you haven't heard this one, I recommend it as one of your first listens!
Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl - In My Mind (feat. Georgi Kay) [Axwell Radio Edit]. This is one of those songs that absolutely feels like an EDM classic! The catchy lyrics, awesome beat drops, everything about this song is really good. It's pretty easy to imagine a crowd of people jumping to this at a DJ set or a rave! This is also a great song for beginner EDM fans!
King Willonius - BBL Drizzy (Metro Boomin Remix) [Crankdat Edit]. If you think it's absurd I added this, I don't disagree with you, but just enjoy it for the humor. I honestly think AI-Generated music is ridiculous and very bad for the industry, but Crankdat (and Metro Boomin, for that matter) do a great job making it feel a little more authentic. Plus, having real people work on the song is kinda nice because it makes it almost become a real song, which is great. If you want a good laugh, you can definitely check out this future bass version of "BBL Drizzy."
Monsta - Holdin' On (Skrillex & Nero Remix). If you're on Instagram or other forms of social media, you'll probably hear this song pretty frequently, especially in memes. However, don't let that fool you, this is a classic remix that is really cool! The beat drops in this song are some of the best Skrillex has done. They're extremely high energy, and it really makes this song feel awesome!
Disclosure - You & Me (feat. Eliza Doolittle) [Flume Remix]. This is a remix I've been listening to long before I started getting into EDM! It's a little bit more chill, but the beat drops keep it from potentially getting too boring! It's honestly a great song to work out to as well!
Öwnboss & Selva - Riot (Riot Ten Remix). This is by no means my favorite on the list, but I do really enjoy the unexpected dubstep drop that comes in about halfway through the song! Honestly, all the drops are great, but that's probably the best one. I can't imagine how loud this song gets on speakers! I might have to test it out at some point!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix). This is yet another classic remix! I think almost everybody's heard this song at some point in their life! The original song is easy to dance to, this remix just makes that even easier to do! I don't need to say a lot about this one. It's awesome, all you need to know!
Miike Snow - Paddling Out (Wolfgang Gartner Remix). Miike Snow is not only one of the best indie pop bands of the past 15 years or so, but they are also one of my all-time favorite bands. On top of that, "Paddling Out" is one of their best songs, and that's without Wolfgang Gartner remixing it! The original song is sort of groovy, and Gartner adds on to that grooviness by making it more of a dance track. I could honestly see someone starting a rave to this too.
Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 (Sport Chant Stadium Remix). If you've ever been to a college football game, then you've more than likely have heard this before. I think the part most people know is the "Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh" chant that makes the song and remix iconic! Who knew techno could be so cool? If this song didn't exist, college football games would be a lot less exciting, in my opinion! Even if you aren't a college football fan though, you can easily get pumped up while listening to this song!
Imagine Dragons - Gold (Jorgen Odegard Remix). I really don't like Imagine Dragons (sorry to anyone who does), so in order to make them listenable for me, you have to do a really good job remixing one of their songs. Jorgen Odegard does just that! He makes "Gold" sound way cooler, the beat drops are perfectly balanced when it comes to intensity, and while I won't be likely to listen to the original album, I'll for sure be listening to this remix again! I don't know a whole lot about Odegard, but I think I respect him a lot because of this remix.
Space Laces - Dominate (Boombox Cartel Edit). "Dominate" is one of my favorite dubstep songs, and while I don't think this edit is as good as Space Laces' original song, I still think it's really cool. It kind of expands on the first beat drop in the original song, by adding more notes in. I also get a phonk vibe from this edit, but I'd say this is much better than most phonk. Definitely a cool version of a really good dubstep track!
The Prodigy - Breathe (Zeds Dead Remix). This is actually one of the older Zeds Dead remixes, but it still lives up as a solid song to their discography! "Breathe" is a pretty well known techno track from the 90s, but the remix gave it a more updated version, as of 2012 when the remix was released! Generally speaking, I'm not a huge techno guy, so I enjoy this remix a lot more than the original! Regardless of whether you're a fan of The Prodigy or not, be sure to check this remix out and see what you think!
Ahadadream, Priya Ragu & Skrillex - TAKA (Caribou Remix). This remix of "TAKA" makes an already great song even better, which is honestly pretty cool. I like the beat drops in this remix a little but more than the original. The remix is also a lot more vibey and groovy, and I like that the beat drops and melody are focused on so heavily. Caribou did a great job making the song sound different without making it unrecognizable! This is probably a good place to start getting into house music as well!
Skrillex & Poo Bear - Would You Ever (4B Remix). "Would You Ever" is a pretty chill house track made by Skrillex, but 4B's remix is a little bit heavier in terms of beat drops. Generally speaking though, this song is still pretty chill. If I'm being 100% honest with you all, the original is better. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with this remix. So overall, I'll let you decide which one you want to hear first.
Illenium - Starfall (3THOS x Draeden Remix). "Starfall" is one of my personal favorite Illenium songs. It's probably one of his coolest songs overall. The only thing the original song lacks in comparison to the rest of the album is heavy beat drops. That's where the remixes come in clutch! There are much more intense beat drops in this, and the guitar that you hear in the first drop is not in the original track, which is awesome. Even though the song is similar to the original at first, by the time it's over, you feel like you were headbanging the whole time! Definitely check this one out!
Nirvana - Something In the Way (Illenium Remix). As much as I wish the full version of this song this song was on Apple Music or Spotify, You can always find it on YouTube! I'm sure most of us agree that "Something In the Way" was kind of overplayed when "The Batman" came out, but Illenium did an awesome job making it feel fresh again! The original song is great, but Illenium makes an almost modernized version that build more hype and energy than Nirvana's version. I have to imagine it's pretty hard to do a remix of a 90s grunge song, but Illenium seems to make it seem easy!
Modest Mouse - Ocean Breathes Salty (Poolside Remix). This is an interesting remix, considering the original band makes indie rock. However, despite how different this remix is, it's still really cool. The original song is one of Modest Mouse's best, but the difference between the original song and the remix is that the original is actually more upbeat, while the remix is a lot more subdued and calm. The title of this remix is honestly 100% fitting, because it's easy to imagine someone sitting by a pool listening to it. I applaud the band for trying something new with this remix, because it seems to have payed off!
Illenium & Tori Kelly - Blame Myself (Illenium and Virtual Riot Remix). This is another instance where I like the remix more than the original song! In case you couldn't tell, Illenium has done some really cool remixes, and he's also had many other producers remix his songs too! The original version of "Blame Myself" is much more melodic in comparison to the remix, which adds a much heavier beat drop toward the beginning of the song. When it comes to dubstep, I usually prefer the heavier songs over the melodic songs, because I tend to get more pumped up listening to that. Hence the reason I love this remix! The beat drops are awesome, and Tori Kelly's vocals blend really well with the melody!
Seven Lions, Illenium & Ásdís - Not Even Love (Armin Van Buuren Remix). This remix, which is not very old, gives "Not Even Love" a different approach. The original song is a little more melodic, while Armin Van Buuren's take on the song is more rave-like! I really like all 3 versions of this song available on streaming at the moment, because each version has it's own unique style!
Seven Lions, Illenium & Ásdís - Not Even Love (MUZZ Remix). In comparison to the original track and the AVB remix, this remix has more of a drum and bass sound, especially during the beat drops. It's probably my favorite of the 2 remixes because it's a little bit heavier. It's actually heavier than the original song too. If I were to recommend either remix to someone, I'd recommend this one first!
illenium - Fractures (Trivecta Remix) [Feat. Nevve]. This is yet another heavier version of a melodic song! Although it's not a whole lot heavier than the original, the beat drops are honestly more exciting. Illenium has also used this remix to close out the first set of his Trilogy shows, which are absolutely phenomenal! I really enjoy "Fractures" regardless of whether it's the original or Trivecta's remix!
Illenium - Gorgeous (feat. Blanke & Bipolar Sunshine) [MEMBA Remix]. This is a very interesting remix of "Gorgeous." it's a lot heavier and faster than the original, and the beat drops are very unique. It almost gives me Apple commercial vibes, but I don't mean that in a bad way! I'd recommend the original more, but if you want to dance more, listen to MEMBA's remix!
Illenium, Wooli & Grabbitz - You Were Right (Kill The Noise Remix). "You Were Right" is such a good song, even though it's one of the more subdued tracks on Illenium's 2023 self-titled album, aside from Starfall. This remix adds a twist to the original song, making it much heavier with awesome beat drops. I almost like this remix more than the original track, but something about the original resonates with me so well that it's my favorite of the two. Regardless of that, you need to listen to this remix if you're big into dubstep!
The Wellermen - Hoist the Colors (feat. Ebucs, Eric Hollaway, Daniel Brevik, Davide Dalmonte, Bobby Bass, Jesse Elkins & Luke G. Taylor) [Excision & Sullivan King Remix]. It kind of feels like this song was destined to become a dubstep banger! The booming vocals and extremely heavy beat drops are actually insane together! If we saw pirates in 2024, this is 100% what they would listen to! I highly recommend this one to die hard dubstep fans, it's a crazy track!
Illenium - Story of My Life (feat. Sueco & Trippie Redd) [RIOT Remix]. As you might've read earlier in this article, "Story of My Life" is one of my favorite Illenium songs, especially the heavy edit! This remix is cool because it builds off of the heavy edit, with even more of a metalcore sound. There's also heavier beat drops, so this remix basically takes the heavy edit of the song, and one-ups it in terms of heaviness! This is definitely a really cool remix!
Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero (Illenium Remix). I'm sure most of my readers will be baffled that I added a Taylor Swift remix to this list, especially because I don't think her music is all that great! At the same time, me not liking Taylor Swift makes this remix pretty important. In my opinion, Illenium makes this song like one of his own, which is awesome because it makes the remix feel natural and not forced by any means! The beat drops also just make the song so much cooler. The only thing I don't like is Taylor Swift's poorly written lyrics, but if you ignore that and just focus on the melody, I think it's a great remix! Well done, Illenium!
Rezz - EDGE (Blanke Remix). I believe Rezz is one of the coolest artists in the world of dubstep right now. I also think it's cool Blanke was able to remix one of her older tracks in the form of "EDGE." While this song isn't full of extreme beat drops, it's still really cool and great to get stuff done to. Many dubstep songs are easy to work out to, this is definitely one of them!
Flume - Say It (feat. Tove Lo) [Illenium Remix]. This is another one of Illenium's best remixes, and also another instance of him turning a song into melodic dubstep! I really like the chill aspect of this remix, and the chorus itself is really catchy too. The thing that's interesting about this remix, is that when Illenium plays it during his DJ sets, he ends it with a much heavier and unexpected beat drop. However, even if the heavy beat drop isn't involved, this remix is still really really good!
Dawn Golden - All I Want (Illenium 2014 Remix). As you can tell by the title, this is one of Illenium's older remixes, and he often plays it during his throwback DJ sets! However, even though this remix may be old, it's still really cool. I believe this remix is even calmer than Illenium's remix of "Say It." I highly recommend this one, mainly for if you need something to chill out to!
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (The Glitch Mob Remix). This is a remix most people are aware of. It's interesting to think that The Glitch Mob became famous primarily from this remix too! I love the idea of a heavier, more electronic-based "Seven Nation Army." Something about it is so cool and it works so well! I'd say listen to this one if you want some energy!
Skrillex, Flowdan & Fred Again... - Rumble (RIOT Remix). The way I actually discovered this remix was when I listened to Illenium's Trilogy LA set from earlier in 2024! When I first heard it, I was instantly intrigued! This remix adds a unique twist to the original, with heavier beat drops and more of an intense buildup! As awesome as the original is, this remix is a little bit more exciting, but I recommend both!
Illenium & Jon Bellion - Good Things Fall Apart (Travis Barker Remix). It's a little bit surprising that the drummer for pop punk band Blink-182 made such a good remix for an EDM song! While the original is definitely more EDM, this remix makes it a full on rock song, and it pretty much works! To me, it doesn't sound off or anything, each part comes together really well! Great work by Travis!
There you have it, the 35 great electronic remixes! As I mentioned at the beginning, I am going to keep compiling my playlist until it gets to 70 songs, and then I will create a new article! Thanks for reading this article, and I hope you get to check out some of these songs! - Elliott Dudoit
