One thing you guys need to learn about me is that I love collecting vinyl and CDs. These days, I tend to buy CDs a lot more than vinyl records. That's mainly because CDs are easier to afford (I can get a used album for $1 most of the time!), and I live in an apartment where I don't have space for a record player. The benefit of CDs being affordable in most places is that I can buy them more frequently, resulting in a new segment for this site: CD hauls! Even if I just buy 1 CD from a store, I will be sure to document what I got!
Today, I decided to stop by my local thrift store, where I've gotten some really good albums in the past! While looking through their collection of CDs, I was fortunate enough to find The Guess Who's "Greatest Hits" album from 1999! Although The Guess Who is by no means my favorite classic rock band, I really enjoy a lot of their songs. I also have a lot of family members who enjoy this band, including my Dad, who claims to have seen the band perform in New Orleans, Louisiana sometime in the 2000s!
The CD I bought features songs from the classic era of the band, which took place from 1969-1974. I do find it a little odd that songs from 1975 and 1976 were not included, as the classic lineup continued throughout those years before breaking up! One thing that is cool about this release though, is the fact that the track listing was made in the order that each album was released. It starts out with one of the band's biggest hits: "These Eyes" from 1969, and ends with "Dancin' Fool" from 1974.
If someone wanted to get a sense of what The Guess Who sounded like, I'd highly recommend this album. The CD itself plays pretty well too! Some of my favorite tracks include "These Eyes", "Undun", and "American Woman." Some songs I wasn't as huge on were "Follow Your Daughter Home" and "Clap for the Wolfman." Overall, this was a very enjoyable listen, and I'm happy to have it in my collection! I will be giving this CD a total of 8/10 for quality, music, and packaging! - Elliott Dudoit
