The final design at the end of the class is described below. We also have the slides of the final presentation that we delivered on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023 at The King's Academy. Our presentation was in front of a panel of judges, including administration and professional engineers, as well as about 100 people.
For our final design, there were three main parts: the cap, body, and bottom. The cap is magnetized to the top of the body, and the UV lights are inside. Having the cap magnetized was a cool feature that we wanted to add. The cap also has metal plates that connect to ones on the body and provide the UV lights with power. Moving on to the body, the capacitors are taped inside the bottle and the wires are taped along the outside to reach the bottom component. We intended to create our own bottle body, but due to the leaking of our previous models, we had to adapt to the metal body we now use. The bottom component is magnetized to the bottom of the body. We added this in for future improvements where a charging station is created, and the user could remove the bottom component to charge and continue to use their bottle independently. The bottom component houses the Arduino, batteries, and other wires. The bottom connects everything together, and the metal plates on the top transmit the signal to and from the Arduino. We also included a temporary switch to be able to turn the bottle on and off to conserve battery.
There are minimal words and explanations on the slides of the presentation because this website goes into more depth, and we had to condense our project into a 15-minute presentation.
Following our presentation, we were expecting better results, but we are taking the judges' feedback as ways to improve. We appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedules to come and listen to us present. We are also proud of our peers for excelling in their presentations. Unfortunately, our computer chip stopped working right before the presentation, and due to this unforeseen factor, we could not present our project to the best of our abilities. We had a lot of information, which can be seen on this website, and with adequate time, we could have fully illustrated our problem and solution. We are proud of all the hard work that we put into this project, and despite setbacks and challenges, we were successful in going through the engineering process.
