Primitive Methodist Chapel

High Street

Opened 1901 - Closed 1932

This chapel once stood opposite what is now the library, 25 High Street, and opened in 1901. The site was next to a large house and a coach house and they were all purchased together for £530 and incorporated into the site. The house became the home of the minister, the coachouse was converted into the Sunday School, and the new chapel was built by Barnsdale's the builders of Donington. The chapel closed in 1932 on union with the Wesleyan Methodists. In the 1940s the buildings were converted into a car repair garage. In the 1960s the house and former Sunday School were demolished to create access to a new lorry garage behind and in the 1980s the chapel was pulled down to create a forecourt and entry to a new car garage.

1901 Mr. George Barnsdale's tender is accepted to build the chapel.
