Bottle & Glass
60 Northorpe Road
"Fondly remembered as being an out of the way pub, situated straight opposite the Northorpe end of the Cemetery Footpath. A mere twenty-minute walk from the village, but perhaps much longer on the return journey! The main room had a small bar and always a roaring welcoming fire in the winter. The ‘Bottle’ was well known for its characters who drank there, like one who always had a crate of brown ale under his table — to save him keep getting up and fetching it from the bar! Like many other pubs of the time the property needed a great deal of money spent on repairs and refurbishing, so at the end of the 1960’s the brewery took the easy way out, closed its doors and sold it as a private house."
