The Westerlands
The Republic of Shandus stands as the only major civilization in this region. It's capitol, Shandus, is known around the world as a center for art, music, performance, and other entertainment. The nation controls all territory west of the Anuk'Xi forest and south of the Bonewall. it has a temperate oceanic climate and is susceptible to heavy storms throughout the year.
Brinmire Dam was constructed in 813 A4 to prevent flooding in the region and increase usable farmland. There was a village northeast of the Dam called Hadden which was flooded by the newly formed Lake Delmar. Though disputed by Shandus, many sources say that the inhabitants of Hadden refused to be relocated and were instead massacred by the Shandi Defense Forces at the command of Lord Edwin Solus.
Kaliospire sits at the center of the Shandi Peninsula. The great citadel is home to the Hundred Rings mage guild. The guild is composed of 100 members, each holding a magic ring forged by the wizard Thadius Kalioban in 120 A4. 10 of the rings had power over the other 90. The holders of the 10 rings could see through the eyes of the wielders of the other 90 and summon a ring back to Kaliospire at will, keeping a tight leash on their members actions. As members leave, die, or are banished, the guild holds tryouts for new members. Thadius Kalioban has not been seen since 277 A4, nor has his ring.
The Anuk'Xi forest is considered no-man's land by many. Only the bravest and bolded travelers seek to enter its borders. The forest is controlled by the Cult of Anuk'Xi; known otherwise as the Weavers. They are based at the temple/fortress called the Arachidium. The upper echelon of the Cult is composed of vampires, humans, and drow. They command unknown numbers of monstrous spider creatures. It is unknown if a single entity leads this cult.
The Great Tree Keittik was destroyed by the Weavers in the Third Age. The elven survivors tried to reestablish homes at Nona and Trikal, but those villages were destroyed years later.
The Bonewall is a 50ft wall spanning 20 miles across the Dead Valley. A Fortress sits near the center of the wall, near the river. The wall once belonged to the Kingdom of Diam before the Fall and protected the kingdom in many wars. It has since been modified to keep the undead forces of Diam contained in the north. The wall is lightly guarded, as the undead seem to have dwindled in number over the last few centuries.
Mt. Dawnbringer in the east has a large concave section carved out of the south side. It is said that the gnomes of Naerdrix carved this wonder in the first age, but its purpose is not understood.
