The (almost) current track plan is shown in the image, left. The Creamery and signal box positions have been reversed in the final version.
My first draft and original concept is shown to the right. The overall concept still remains the same.
The concept is the layout focuses on a very small industrial goods yard which is served via a branch line. the branch line has a halt with a passing loop.
There will be three sidings in the good yard which are of the correct dimensions to run the "Inglenook sidings shunting puzzle". There will be a number of private sidings too to add interest.
"Inglenook Sidings, created by Alan Wright (1928 - January 2005), is a model railway train shunting puzzle (US: model railroad switching puzzle). It consists of a specific track layout, a set of initial conditions, a defined goal, and rules which must be obeyed while performing the shunting operations."

There must be three sidings, one should be able to accommodate 5 wagons and the other two accommodate 3 wagons each. The leading spur should accommodate 3 wagons and the locomotive. For the original version of the puzzle there are 8 wagons in the sidings, the rule being:
Form a train of 5 wagons selected at random of a specific order from the 8 wagons.
The spur (head shunt) in Dib's yard is actually long enough for an 0-6-0 shunting loco and five short wheelbase wagons. the puzzle only requires the length of three, and this can be achieved by placing two wagons at the end of the head shunt if required.
There are two three wagon siding
There is a single five wagon siding
