I have been experimenting with adding brambles using brown painted polyfibre wadding (found in clothing).
I then added brown 2mm long static grass, some sage green sieved sawdust, and some ground and seived autumn leaves.
I have been adding some wire and post fencing to the edge of the Permanent Way yard. I 3D printed the posts in my resin printer with holes for the wires.
The wire is 0.4mm silver jewellery wire which is the same I used for the point rodding. The wire will be painted in with Burnt Sienna acrylic for a rusty colour. the posts will be painted with Burnt Umber, and then dry brushed.
The area of bare baseboard behind the hut in the permanent way yard was treated to a mixture of household wall filler, brown poster paint and limestone dust.
Then this was sprinkled with 1mm limestone, then 0.5mm limestone and finally limestone dust.
Fine sage green sawdust added, and a sprinkle of straw coloured static grass.
this area will get more attention once the retaining wall if fixed in place and some scrap items have been 3D printed and painted and sited there. Once that is complete brambles will be added.
After setting the fence between the permanent way yard and the branch line, I then set about adding weeds and hedging to the fence.
First, some naked bushes are added using jute string or rope set in hot glue, painted brown and trimmed. These were then glued on one side or the other of the fence.
Next poly-fibre wadding is teased out into thin layers and painted brown. Once dry this is then teased out further into small clumps and place along either side of the fence as if they are brambles. I drip PVA diluted to be very weak with water and soap.
Then, 2mm brown static grass is added, which is fixed with cheap hairspray.
Finally, a few "leaves" are added with a combination of finely sieved sawdust coloured using sage green emulsion, and finely ground autumn leaves.
Lastly, the leaves are fixed with cheap hairspray.
Work on the layout over the last few weeks has focused around the cattle dock. the platform was constructed from laminated cereal packet covered with 3DK brick paper. The fence posts are designed to be a scale 4' and 3D resin printed by myself. (I can sell these of required - please use the contact form).
The embankment was created with a lattice of cereal packet card. This was covered with blue paper and a dilute PVA mix. Once dry then a mix of wall filler, water, brown paint, washing up detergent, and limestone grit and dust was added to the top.
The bramble foliage is made rom brown sprayed polyfibre wadding with bushes made from painted string. these are coated with brown 2mm static grass. I then add finely sieved brown leaves and green scatter to the top, held woth cheap hairspray. I have a Youtube video of how I do my bramble foliage.
The ivy is from green sprayed polyfibre with dark green scatter glued to it.
Since the last update the work on the layout has mainly been static grass and some ballasting. I was intending to make my own static grass, but I have been struggling to make reliable and good quality grass, so I have succumbed to purchasing some sample bags of WWS static grass of Amazon. I have chosen patchy, dead and beige as I want the grass to look tired and dried out from the end of the summer and countless oils ad chemicals spilt upon it.
I have also been 3D printing oil barrels, and have liberally applied these around the layout. Behind the hut in the permanent way yard there must be at least ten, but they are covered with weeds.
