PREMISE
Are you a budding artist? Are you agile enough to describe an image at the drop of a hat? Actually, none of that matters. Cubizoom is primarily designed to have fun and to discover various aspects of the French language and culture through drawing and humor.
👥 3 to 8 players ⏱️ 20-30 minutes
Game Materials:
Created during the spring of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Cubizoom was designed to be played over Zoom. Please refer to the slides below and the rules of the game to set up the game. In this case, you will need the following equipment:
A Zoom connection
Access to Quizlet
The slides below
However, Cubizoom can also be adapted for in-person play. In this case, we suggest:
A whiteboard
Dry-erase markers of different colors
All players must go to Quizlet to get hints: https://quizlet.com/506434672/cubizoom-flash-cards/?x=1jqt
One player (who becomes the artist) must start and everyone else must go into a breakout room. After a minute in this room, they can return to the game. During this minute the artist must draw the clue on the Zoom “whiteboard”.
As soon as everyone has returned from the breakout room, the artist must stop drawing and the others must create a title for the drawing on the whiteboard. Subsequently, all players vote for their favorite title, including the artist. In the event of a tie, it is the artist who decides between the ties.

What do "An American in Paris," "Napoleon's horse," "Fauvism," and "Holidays during the month of August" have in common? Nothing except that these themes allow for an exploration of the French culture and language. In Cubizoom, you will exercise not only your drawing skills but also your imagination to create image captions. In doing so, you will enter the French cultural universe.
With your learners, you can think about the following questions to debrief the play sessions:
How have stereotypes about French culture influenced your drawings?
How are the clues linked to French history and French culture?
How did you use the French language in this game? In what ways is language in games different from language used in a classroom?
