Modern scholars argue that the parts of The Annals of the Cakchiquels, Título de Totonicapán & Popol Vuh which contain
"the creation of the world, of Adam, the Earthly Paradise in which Eve was deceived not by a serpent but by Lucifer himself, as and angel of light. It deals with the posterity of Adam, following in every respect the same order as Genesis and the sacred books as far as the captivity in Babylonia. The manuscript assumes that the three great Quiché nations with which it particularly deals are the descendants of the Ten Tribes of the Kingdom of Israel, whom Shalmanser reduced to perpetual captivity and who, finding themselves on the border of Assyria, resolved to emigrate"
actually come from the Theologia Indorum [6], written by Dominican friar Domingo de Vico in 1553...
NOTE: that the date of publication of this document was divided into TWO years by academia, in an attempt to have the first part would pre-date these Mayan stories... pg. 31
2nd Half of Theologia Indorum was published 1554...
Pedro de Cieza de León, Parte primera de la chrónica del Peru (1553) & Titulo de Caciques was written in 1544
But, in 2008, the Vatican admitted there is some trouble with this date as Titulo de Caciques was written in 1544, though it was not published in 1925 - (see Cacique) and similar "christian" stories appear in So. America

In addition to these texts, there are at least seven other works written in K'iche' using Latin script in the colonial era in and around Totonicapan:
Titulo de Santa Clara published in 1957
Titulo de Tamub II written in 1567, dealing with the Tamub lineage
Titulo de C'oyoi published in 1979, dealing with the Cawek lineage in the Quetzaltenango area
Titulo de Yax, dealing with the Yax lineage in the Totonicapan area
Titulo de Chuachituj published in 1973 dealing with the area northeast of Totonicapan
Titulo de Paxtoca published in 1973 dealing with the area southwest of Totonicapan
DESPITE the fact that the Origional Text by Domingo de Vico is NOT EXTANT
NOTE: that the document [Theologia Indorum] these Mayan stories are SUPPOSEDLY based on does NOT actually exist...
As a catholic priest, educated enough to create the Theologia Indorum, there is simply no way Friar Vico did NOT known that the Bible says;
God instructed Moses to lift up his rod and stretch forth his hand over the sea Exodus 14:16, and that five verses later ...
Moses lifted up his hand and a divine wind was the active agent that parted the waters Exodus 14:21
Every graphic one is likely to encounter of Moses parting the waters shows the prophet with his hands in the air, like this promotional poster for Cecile B. DeMille's 1956 epic starring Charlton Heston

Quichean tradition of crossing the ocean on dry ground with divine aid was that;
Kaqchikel Chronicles (p. 39) says an ancestral Kaqchikel hero used a kaq-a-che' qa-ch'ame'y red-tree staff to stab the sand in the sea which opened up a corridor through the water.
Titulo de Totonicapan (pp. 176, 216-217) says culture hero Balam Q'uitse took his staff and struck the sea which opened up a pathway of smooth sand.
Domingo Vico adopted it in his 1553 Theologia Indorum - [written n K'iche'] writting that Moses opened the Red Sea by cosij strking it with his ch'ami staff.

This is pretty close to the story I was told by my native companion, while on a "P-Day" excursion to Quirigua, in Guatemala...
"We fled at the time Moses came down from the mountain, and found the people worshiping idols... because we feared his wrath, which is why he had demon fangs"
Somewhere there is a picture I took with Elder Bruce Morton that day, which clearly shows Moses, with fangs, holding the ten commandments
Lehi emphasized Moses' rod as the prophet's instrument of power 2 Nephi 3:17 ""the Lord hath said: I will raise up a Moses; and I will give power unto him in a rod"
3 Nephi tells us that Moses was given power to "smite upon the waters of the Red Sea" Helaman 8:11
Lehi's son Nephi uses both "smote" and "smite" when speaking about Moses bringing water forth out of the rock at Ma'sau/Massah and Meribah - 1 Nephi 17:29
However, later in 2 Nephi 25:20 Lehi's son Nephi says that Moses "spoke" / 'spake" to the waters of the Red Sea, which is consistant with 1 Nephi 4:2, & 1 Nephi 17:26
"For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."
Genesis 3:1-6 says "the serpent" spoke with Eve.
In Genesis 3:13 Eve says "the serpent" beguiled her.
Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:3 says Eve was the one beguiled by "the serpent".
Remember Delia Goetz's 1953 introduction to his english translation, where he justifies leaving out the first 31 pages...
"The said manuscript consists of thirty-one quarto pages; but translation of the first pages is omitted because they are on the creation of the world, of Adam, the Earthly Paradise in which Eve was deceived not by a serpent but by Lucifer himself, as and angel of light. It deals with the posterity of Adam, following in every respect the same order as Genesis and the sacred books as far as the captivity in Babylonia. The manuscript assumes that the three great Quiché nations with which it particularly deals are the descendants of the Ten Tribes of the Kingdom of Israel, whom Shalmanser reduced to perpetual captivity and who, finding themselves on the border of Assyria, resolved to emigrate."

"...les fue dicho a Adán y Eva por nuestro Dios. Despues fueron engañados por el diablo el engañador, ya que él estaba enojada porque la casa del cielo había sido dada y regalada a Adán y Eva. Entonces vina a tentar a Eva para que comiese del zapotal prohibido, El diablo se transformó en ángel con cola de serpiente."
"... it was told to Adam and Eve by our God. Then they were deceived by the devil the deceiver, for he was angry that the house of heaven had been given and given to Adam and Eve. Then he came to tempt Eve to eat of the forbidden sapoth, The devil transformed into an angel with a serpent's tail."

2 Nephi 9:9...
"...behold, if the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil, to rise no more. And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness."
St. Michael Vanquishing Satan (1518) by Raphael, depicting Satan being cast out of heaven by Michael the Archangel, as described in Revelation 12:7–8
Note: satan has a serpent's tail...
This detail, is confirmed in a first century A.D. document know as The Life of Adam and Eve, also known in its Greek version as the Apocalypse of Moses (Ancient Greek: Ἀποκάλυψις Μωϋσέως, romanized: Apokalypsis Mōuseōs; Biblical Hebrew: ספר אדם וחוה)
Considered as Jewish apocryphal writing, the Apocalypse of Moses recounts the lives of Adam and Eve from after their expulsion from the Garden of Eden to their deaths. It provides even more details about the Fall of Man, including Eve's version of the story- in which Satan explains that he and his angles rebelled when God the Son commanded them to bow down and worship the body of Adam when it was first created...
And there stood one [Yaweh] among them that was like unto God [Elohiem], and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell [Yaweh/Creator];
And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God [The Father] shall command them;
And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.
And the Lord [Yaweh/Christ] said: Whom shall I send?
And one [Michael/Adam] answered like unto the Son of Man [Christ]: Here am I, send me.
And another [satan] answered and said: Here am I, send me.
And the Lord [Yaweh/Christ] said: I will send the first.
And the second [satan] was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.
Mosiah 16:3 - Abinadi repeated the Nephite tradition that both Adam and Eve were beguiled by the devil in his guise as a serpent
Helaman 6:26 - Helaman taught that Satan enticed both of our first parents.
Ether 8:25 - Moroni in his translation of Jaredite records repeated the Nephite tradition that the father of lies beguiled both Adam and Eve
