chpt 6:4 "...I would speak unto you concerning things which are, and which are to come; wherefore, I will read you the words of Isaiah"... of all 60 chapters of Isaiah, Nephi chooses just a few...
the coming of Christ,
his crucifixion,
the diaspora of the Jews (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_diaspora)
and the building of Zion (New Jerusalem) by the "covenant people of the Lord" (v. 12-13-14)
chat 7 - Isaiah speaks of the house of Israel, which seem to have been abandoned by the Lord, that the branches that have been broken off, will be remembered ... Christ gives specific references to his own death at the hands of the Romans ("..I gave my back to the smiter, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair. I hid not my face from shame and spitting...")
chat 8 is more prophesy of the New Jerusalem (Zion) being built and Jerusalem being re-built, before the 2nd coming of the Lord ("O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city" several times...).
verse 19 contains a specific reference to "These two sons..." Revelation 11:3–12
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them."
One of these two "candlesticks" is a descendent of the tribe of Manasseh, and the other is a descendent of the tribe of Ephriam/Judah. (DyC 113:3-6, Jewish traditions...)
chat 9 - Nephi again explains why he picked these chapters of Isaiah to copy into his own record -
"I have read these things that ye might know concerning the covenants of the Lord"
Which is a direct reference to Moses 7:50-52, & 60 (most of 7 actually)
"they shall be restored to the true church" & "they shall be gathered home to the lands of their inheritance (Zion & Jerusalem)"
verses 4-17 - Jacob recounts the plan of salvation, final judgement of all men
verses 23-28 - Jacob explains why
Verse 53 - he comes back to "the covenants of the Lord, ...he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel." => These chapters support the Title page, that the purpose of the BoM is to get the Laminates to realize who they are, and get them to accept the covenant of the Lord, so that they can build the New Jerusalem.
chpt 10 - continues this theme "now I, Jacob, speak unto you again, my beloved brethren, concerning this righteous branch of which I have spoken" + "the promises which we have obtained are promises unto us according to the flesh" + "our children shall be restored" +"When the day cometh that they shall believe in me, that I am Christ, then have I covenanted with their fathers that they shall be restored in the flesh, upon the earth, unto the lands of their inheritance."
"Wherefore, for this cause, that my covenants may be fulfilled..."
"I will fulfil my promises which I have made unto the children of men, that I will do unto them while they are in the flesh..."
"I will consecrate this land unto thy seed [speaking to Lehi], and them who shall be numbered among thy seed, forever, for the land of their inheritance..."
"the Lord God has led away [groups of people] from time to time from the house of Israel, according to his will and pleasure. And now behold, the Lord remembereth all them [branches] who have been broken off, wherefore he remembereth us also..."
This theme continues into the next weeks reading (2 Nephi 11-25)
"I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah" + "my soul delighteth in the covenants of the Lord which he hath made to our fathers;" + "...now I write some of the words of Isaiah, that whoso of my people shall see these words may lift up their hearts and rejoice..."
"whoso shall see these words"... speaking of the remnant of the tribe of Manasseh (Lamanties) who would see the BoM in the last days
And it came to pass in the forty and sixth, yea, there was much contention and many dissensions; in the which there were an exceedingly great many who departed out of the land of Zarahemla, and went forth unto the land northward to inherit the land.
4 And they did travel to an exceedingly great distance, insomuch that they came to large bodies of water and many rivers.
12 And it came to pass that there were many of the people of Ammon, who were Lamanites by birth, did also go forth into this land.
13 And now there are many records kept of the proceedings of this people, by many of this people, which are particular and very large, concerning them.
14 But behold, a hundredth part of the proceedings of this people ...cannot be contained in this work.
15 But behold, there are many books and many records of every kind, and they have been kept chiefly by the Nephites. => Xhilo-a Balam!
the Messiah ben David should be the topic of most interest, as he is yet to come. In DyC 13 - when John the Baptist is conferring the Aaronic priesthood upon JS and Oliver Cowdry, he uses these words "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness."
This is direct reference to a "messiannic" prophecy of Messiah ben David's future sacrifice of the Red Heifer and his making bread from the ashes, and giving it to the 144,000 priests (Kohen)
Which is what the 3rd and final Temple in Jerusalem is for: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Temple
Maimonides wrote, in his Jewish legal code, the Mishneh Torah, he states that animal sacrifices will resume in the Third Temple, and details how they will be carried out...
"Then the grain-offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to God as in the days of old and as in former years" Malachi 3:4
Joseph Smith taught the same thing,
"...the offering of sacrifice, which also shall be continued at the last time; for all the ordinances and duties that ever have been required by [p.211] the Priesthood, under the directions and commandments of the Almighty in any of the dispensations, shall all be had in the last dispensation, therefore all things had under the authority of the Priesthood at any former period, shall be had again, bringing to pass the restoration spoken of by the mouth of all the Holy Prophets; then shall the sons of Levi offer an acceptable offering to the Lord. 'And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord.' Malachi 3:3
It is generally supposed that sacrifice was entirely done away when the Great Sacrifice [i.e., the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus] was offered up, and that there will be no necessity for the ordinance of sacrifice in future: but those who assert this are certainly not acquainted with the duties, privileges and authority of the priesthood, or with the Prophets . . . .
These sacrifices, as well as every ordinance belonging to the Priesthood, will, when the Temple of the Lord shall be built, and the sons of Levi be purified, be fully restored and attended to in all their powers, ramifications, and blessings. This ever did and ever will exist when the powers of the Melchisedic Priesthood are sufficiently manifest; else how can the restitution of all things spoken of by the holy Prophets be brought to pass? It is not to be understood that the law of Moses will be established again with all its rites and variety of ceremonies; this has never been spoken of by the Prophets; but those things which existed prior to Moses' day, namely, sacrifice, will be continued. (History of the Church 4:211).
Joseph Fielding Smith stated that animal sacrifice would happen again...
Now in the nature of things, the law of sacrifice will have to be restored, or all things which were decreed by the Lord would not be restored. It will be necessary, therefore, for the sons of Levi, who offered the blood sacrifices anciently in Israel, to offer such a sacrifice again to round out and complete this ordinance in this dispensation. Sacrifice by the shedding of blood was instituted in the days of Adam and of necessity will have to be restored.
The sacrifice of animals will be done to complete the restoration when the temple spoken of is built; at the beginning of the millennium, or in the restoration, blood sacrifices will be performed long enough to complete the fullness of the restoration in this dispensation. (Doctrines of Salvation 3:94)
Nauvoo Temple revelation (D&C 124) dated 19 January 1841: DyC 124:39
Therefore, verily I say unto you, that your anointings, and your washings, and your baptisms for the dead, and your solemn assemblies, and your memorials for your sacrifices by the sons of Levi, and for your oracles in your most holy places wherein you receive conversations, and your statutes and judgments, for the beginning of the revelations and foundation of Zion, and for the glory, honor, and endowment of all her municipals, are ordained by the ordinance of my holy house, which my people are always commanded to build unto my holy name.
https://www.until-we-see.com/christian-belief-and-science-dogma.html => Tzion (or Zion), Manasseh... is on the other side, of the valley, see Silwan
Title Page + here is where my study has taken me so far... Moses 7 (specifically verses 50-52, 60-65) looks like this is an event in history where God was going to end the whole deal, and Enoch talked him out of it. The Father made a covenant with Enoch that his City would return when "a remnant" built the New Jerusalem (Zion) - then in 3 Nephi 21, Christ seems to speak to the Lamanites in front of him, saying "and shall establish again among them my Zion" + "concerning this people who are a remnant" + "that the covenant of the Father may be fulfilled which he hath covenanted with his people" + "And they [gentiles] shall assist my people, the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the house of Israel as shall come, THAT THEY MAY BUILD A CITY, which shall be called the New Jerusalem" (3 Nephi 11 https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/21?lang=eng)
Huh... I have always thought of the BoM as a historical document. From the title page, it looks like the purpose is a "future" document. And... the guys who are currently in charge [gentiles] are NOT the ones who will build the New Jerusalem. Now, there's a new idea.
