The Buthidae family is the most diversified, with the greatest geographic distribution on the planet and the only one that contains species considered potentially of medical importance.
Although the largest number of the Buthidae genera is found in the Old World, the most diverse genus is found in America. Likewise, it is suggested that scorpions may exhibit a higher degree of specialization in the microhabitat they occupy.
