Composed of 21 genera and 186 current species. Presenting, a wide distribution, however, some species are quite restricted. Characterized by the absence of eyes, the presence of eye-spots and the venom apparatus only in the fixed finger of the chela pedipalpal.

In Córdoba, the family is represented by Paratemnoides nidifcator (Balzan, 1888), a cooperatively social species of pseudoscorpions.
